I probably use a piece of fine-grit sandpaper longer than I should, till it doesn't feel rough at all to the touch.

I have also tried using coffee fiters for that kind of fine-grit surface polishing, too.  I haven't been able to tell much of a difference, but it did help to remove or rub out bits of dust that had adhered to a painted surface while the paint dried and cured.

I will usually replace when the paint loads up in the paper. That's pretty often though.

Sandpaper Question
Posted by pilotjohn on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 11:17 AM

I have been doing some "polishing" of the paint surface with some 6000 grit that I picked up, and was wondering when you need to replace it with new?  Seems like an odd question, but with the rougher grits you can see and feel when the paper has work out.  with these super fine grits it is hard for me to tell when the surface has worn out.

Many thanks.

John
