Where can you buy RTV casting silicone or rubber to make molds??????????

Micro Mark has a starter casting set and other casting supplies like RTV.

There is nothing like the BEST, only the best suited application z or y.

RTV rubber and Silicone have different properties and thus are suited for different applications.

Rather than worrying about the mold material, have you considered the following:
1.) Parts per mold
2.) Layout per mold
3.) Which resin will be needed for the best casting result(curing times)

The above will be affected by how your casting method: manual, spinning, rotor, vacuum, etc.

Either way I would order about 3~4 times the expected amount initially. as you will need a few tries before the molds are correct(no trapped air, good pouring channels, etc).

The link to MBS has the best list for RTV. The first package shown is the type I use and it is so simple to use right out of the box. The reference pamphlet that is shown there is another little gem to have on the reference shelf.

As far as which resin to use. I will assume you are not casting clear parts. I use ALUMILITE its a two part resin and it hardens to a cream colour. It is great stuff and it is so incredibly easy to use. I believe my last box came from Model Builder Supply.

As far as resin at Michaels if they do not have it. Ask if they will order it for you. 90% of the time here the Michaels by my home orders items for me.

Thanks, GREG!!! A friend of my fathers who builds model kits for retirees is getting ready to put in production our first model kit and I need the rtv to make the molds. What is the best brand of rtv to use to make a 1/72 scale cargolifter I'm planning on using resin or styrene to make the kit. The only resin that I have seen at my hobbyshop is clear, and the hobbyshop didn't have the catalyst on the shelf. Can I get resin and styrene at Michaels or JoAnn Fabrics

Michaels does carry it. RTV that is (at least here I found it) JoAnn Fabrics I have never seen it in there.

Check the yellow pages as well there may be a company around you that does casting work that could direct you localy.
