You might check out furniture stores in your area who special order cabinets. Over the years I've managed to pick up some extremely good deals from upscale furniture stores who have special ordered a cabinet for a customer. When the item arrived at the store it had been damaged in shipment and the customer refused to accept it. Rather than ship it back, some stores will put the item up for sale at a steep discount. What I did at the two stores I bought cabinets from, was to make friends with a sales person and let them know what I was looking for. One of the cabinets I got down in Florida from Haverty's had a slight nick on the top rear. I'm not what anyone would consider a wood working expert, but I was able to repair the nick to the point its practically invsible. The cabinet had a original sticker price of $1200 and I got it for $450. Its definitely a quality piece of furniture the wife had no problem with me bringing into the house; in fact its in the diniing room. This particular cabinet is about 8' x 4' x 2.5' and was for china. I had to get more glass shelves but now have around 20-25 1/48th planes and three 1/350th ships in it.
Even if you're not into wood working you could probably find someone who could repair a damaged cabinet. You might have to wait a while before the store gets something you are interested in, but the wait was well worth it for me.
