Tweezer recommendations?
Posted by The Judge on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 5:34 PM

Aloha all,

I'm in the market for a high quality tweezer, as it's a tool that I use constantly, and the one I've had since I was twelve just isn't cutting it for the detail work I'm doing now.  What I'm looking for is a pair of self-closing tweezers that are precision made i.e. the tips meet completely along at least the first centimeter of their length.  I'm also considering getting them with PTFE (Teflon) tips so CA won't stick to them.  Does anyone have a brand of quality precision tweezers they recommend?  I'm thinking something in the $30-$40 price range.

Much Mahalos,

Justin

I'm doing some work for a company that markets tweezers, but the project has taken a backseat for another higher priority on their radar...that said you should look at getting these beauties from Excelta. They are "Electronics Production Grade" for assembly.

These are not cheap especially with the exchange rate of the dollar. They are made overseas, which there is a hierarchy of quality...Switzerland, Germany, Italy, and the quality rapidly decreases as your reach other counties...India...Pakistan...China

These should last you a lifetime...their small strong tines offer one to grip a part yet offer little surface for things like CA to cling onto. IMO any bootie you add to the tip just add unwanted thickness and dampens ones "touch" or "senses" while handling a very small part.

They make nipping tweezers too.

Is that sufficient data?

If you get a chance to go to a show where the "Tool Man" has set up, you'll be in hobby tool heaven. I bought about 6 pairs of tweezers last time he was at Wonderfest. Great tools at a very nice price. He has a website but I've never bought from him online.

Thanks for the recommendations Gerald and Woody.  The Excelta ones are exactly what I am looking for, quality Swiss tweezers.  The PTFE ones I have seen, the tips are actually fabricated from PTFE and it's not just a covering or booty that slips on the steel tips.  They are also non-magnetic.  I just find myself using the self-closing tweezers much more than any other pair I have and they are incredibly useful, like a miniature clamp.

Shoots,

Justin
