Aircraft walkaround photo requests
Posted by Mij on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 4:13 PM

Hello, I’ve recently joined the forums. I’m guessing this is the right location to post this.

I work and NASA Armstrong Research Center on Edwards AFB. Some of the folks on the welcome/introduction area (http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/general_discussion/f/14/t/162423.aspx) requested I post of list of aircraft I have access to get walkaround photos.

So I can only take pictures if a particular aircraft is at one of the public display areas. So to start with the Edwards AFB museum has public display aircraft in multiple locations. The three largest groupings are:

Main Base Museum: I can stop by here and take photos most days so I can get photos posted within a week.

West Gate: This is commonly referred to as the Century Circle as most of the century series is represented here along with a YC-15. I don't use this gate usually so this may take a month to get photos posted.

Blackbird Airpark: This is in Palmdale CA and about an hour drive for me and their open hours are fairly restrictive so this could take a few months to get pictures posted.

For the three locations listed above this is a list of aircraft they have along with some aircraft that are 'on a stick' in front of a various buildings.

NASA Armstrong (former name Dryden):This is the NASA facility on base where I work. We have a handful of aircraft on public display that I can photograph. The Armstrong aircraft list is:

HL-10 (on a stick so photos well be from below) lifting body demonstrator

SR-71 (along with J58) and start cart (NASA markings on the tail)

F-104 (I think it's an A model) in NASA white and blue with yellow NASA tail banner

F-8 DFW (digital fly-by-wire demonstrator) with yellow NASA tail banner

F-8 SCW (Supercritical wing demonstrator) with yellow NASA tail banner

X-1E (on a stick so photos well be from below)

Taking pictures and uploading them is not a trivial task so I'll do this on case-by-case basis if someone needs photos of a specific aircraft. PM me if you see something in these lists you want pictures of and tell me specifically what angles or parts you want close-ups of. Also some of the aircraft locations listed on the web site above are not up to date so I'll let you know if that is the case. Also look for existing walkarounds already on the web before asking me as there is no sense in duplicating efforts of what already exists Happy modeling!
