Model contests and shows. Some hobby shops will have a magazine section and in that section, older back issues of different subjects. Military and outdoor Surplus stores will have a book and magazine section. I've seen good mags in 'owner operated' book stores as well.

Before resorting to vendor shows and collector sites, be sure to check with the magazines themselves. Wings/Aipower, for example, certainly one of the modeler's best friends, has put all their back issues (over 30 years worth) on DVD. The British mags which, next to FSM, are the best model mags to be had, are very conscientious about keeping stocks of back issues. So don't waste money on so-called "collectors items" from hucksters at model shows. And, as I keep repeating over and over on the a/c site, check out garage sales and library sites for the most accurate references of all: wartime National Geographics. Not just WW II, but Korea and Vietnam, as well as their issues from the Cold War years. They were absolutely fascinated by aircraft and carriers, as well as X-planes. And the color reproduction, even back during WW II, is outstanding. You can't get more accurate sources than photos taken while the a/c were in acual wartime operation.

try "Midland Counties" (UK-based bookstore, member of Ian allan group); they not only have a HUGE stock of books and mags, but also have a "second hand" section.

Good luck,
Diego.

Have you tried Ebay? I buy older issues of MMIR there, but I have seen other magazines offered for sale.
Erik "Don't fruit the beer." Newest model buys: More than I care to think about. It's time for a support group.

As far as online sources, I dunno, really.

But if you get a chance to go to a show, that may be your best bet. Every show I've gone to, from one day shows up to the NATS, has had a good number of rags to flip through.

Depending on the title, old rags can be difficult for a dealer to sell so they're dirt cheap, often times. Not always, though. You'll run into a guy here and there who thinks his old Scale Modelers were printed on gold paper... Tongue [:P]
