P-51 Walkarounds & Details
North American P-51D Mustang - This is a composite walkaround with shots of at least two, maybe three, different aircraft. As always, be cautious when using restored aircraft as a reference; these are, in essence, 1/1 models and the guys who restore them can make mistakes, just like us...
North American P-51 - This is a small walkaround of a Stang in Canadian markings. There are a few detail shots here which would be helpful to most modelers...
P-51 Detail Shots - Unfortunately this series of pages has deteriorated since I first found it. There were tons of images here, not all great, but all were useful. Most of them are gone now, but what remains could be helpful to someone...
CAF P-51C Mustang - This is an interesting walkaround on the
IPMS USA website which illustrates the ill-fated P-51C 'Tuskegee Airmen'.
Red-Tail Mustang - Not really a walkaround, but there are a few good shots of the very well done cockpit of 'Tuskegee Airmen'. 'Tis a shame they had put the second seat in, (
) and an even bigger shame that she wound up a crumpled heap and that we lost a pilot...
P-51D Walkaround - This is a directory page with walkaround photos of a P-51D. The walkaround is part of a registered-users-only site on which, for some reason, I'm unable to successfully register. Anyhoo, the images are still accessible directly from this directory. The subject aircraft is finished in the markings of 'Kit' Carson's 'Nooky Booky IV' and is a non-standard restoration. certain details, like the cockpit, are not finished to the original standards. Nevertheless, this is an interesting view and there are some images which would be useful...

P51 Mustang Construction - This is a series of six webpages which have selected scanned pages from an original P-51 construction manual.
Markings & Unit Research
Little Friends - This is an excellent site which deals with the fighter units which were part of the Mighty Eighth during WWII.
Web Birds.com is a site covering mostly WWII USAAF units in all theatres; ETO, MTO, PTO & CBI. Almost all the USAAF aircraft types are covered here, the Stang included. If you know which unit you're after, go to town...
Bud Anderson's P-51 Mustang 'OLD CROW' Web Page - This might fit in a bit better under the 'General P-51 Sites' category, but it deals almost exclusively with the 'Yoxford Boys' and the photo coverage and info included goes way beyond what most general interest sites offer, so here 'tis...
The P-51 Mustangs of WWII USAAF Ace Major George Preddy - A classic research article; no images whatsoever. But, from what I can see, the information here is good...
