Black Cat Info/Pics needed...

Jeeves, just watched a documentary on Discovery Wings on the Black Cats the other day, they talked about the paint scheme and said it was applied in the field. Hope this helpes. CHIMO!!!

Have a look at pages 9 and 10 of the album 29 Foxtrot which has a wartime pic of an Aussie 'Black Cat', I was given to replicate my 48 scale model, with pix of the model, from top and underneath. Be glad to help with anything on this bird.

Jeeves,what kind of weathering do you want?As for me I did what Lobbie did with a little differents in techinque.I sparyed painted a base coat of silver then when dryed I did my top coats and sanded heavily.I used a rought grit for heavy weathering paint chipping. Then with a lighter grit[as light as I can get]for buffing.This tech is easy and fun.Now as the weathering goes,the cat was in need of constant paint jobs.Most weathering was at the bottom,this should be weathered a lot also the nose,cocpit area,wing edges with scraches arcoss the wings to the trailing edge,tail areas,elrons,and light weathering with paint chips around and under the enginering area.The outriggers were heavily weathered and engines with cowls.Boy I wish I had a scanner so I can scan some photos to you from my squadron book.I am allmost done with mine and should have some photos posted tomorrow of my build.If you get a chance sreach for Lobbies black cat it might give you some good ideals.Digger

OK.... after some thought and a bit more research-- I went with the blue gray on top. Now-- I would like to try ou the salt chipping technique....where on this bird would the most extensive weathering be?? I know some here have said to weather the hell out of it-- but should there be huge patches of blue?? Or just chipping at leading edges of wings and cowlings and the like?

Jeeves,I am working on a black cat.Lobbie had a good post on this subject on page 93 on the aircraft forum.I as refernce mat have used his post and squadrons walk around.That I know of most of the black cats where paint on the field,some at the factory when order as such.Most cats where painted the blue-grey with with underside. The other painting was done in the field and painted to there area.Like Jacksonville used the three coloed scheme,the north atlantic used the two coloed and two grey colors.The pacific used the two color scheme as well as the black.The army air corp.use a green grey scheme,coast guard used two color,black and the all natural.This is about the best I can do for you due to I don't have a scanner,hopely I will have my black cat done by tomorrow.Digger
