Hey!

Sorry for not replying sooner, I didn't get a notice of your reply and I'm just now checking back in. The book gives lots of tips for how to draw using a computer illustration program. The reason is these programs are much easier to use than CAD packages and can also be used for making custom decals, artwork for custom photo-etching, and even patterns for laser-cutting and CNC machining (in 2D). Some tips for CAD are also discussed. But, this is not a book on how to draw with a computer. It's a book on how to make blueprints, and the techniques and concepts can be applied whether you are using a pencil and paper, a CAD package, or some other drawing program. In other words, it's not confined to just drawing with a particular toolset.

The best bet to understanding what is covered is to read the introduction which is now online and available for viewing at http://www.modelersnotebook.com/MDBH1-Contents1.html The Foreword by Alan Sinclair, a.k.a. "Wizard of Flight" is now also online!

I would like to thank everyone for their encouragement and enthusiasm for this project and for all the pre-orders that have been pouring in. People are very excited about this new book and the response so far has been really positive. The final proof has just been received from the printer and the book looks great! It won't be long before those who have pre-ordered will receive their advance copies.

Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, the pre-order offer is being extended just a bit longer. If you missed out, you can still reserve your copy by December 4 and get upgraded Priority Shipping at no additional charge if you are in the US or a discount on International shipping charges. After that, all orders must include full price for shipping.

In addition, I will be personally autographing each and every pre-ordered book. For more information on the book as well as instructions for ordering, please visit http://www.modelersnotebook.com/

Hey Charles cool idea, I hope the book orders come flying in for you.

I have many years of experience drafting also, mostly architectural 2D. There are days I miss the vellum and T-square, oh well, such is life. AutoDesk has big feet. LOL

I must ask a question that popped to mind. Within the book, what CAD and graphics programs are discussed?

The reason I ask is I started some time ago playing around in 3D gaming. I learned how to work with most of my project in 3D MAX (similar to using my old VIZ). Then someone helped me finish the project with a tutorial for Z-Modeler and things were quiet different. Both imported texture maps I created in Photoshop, albeit much differently.

Just curious. Wink [;)]

Hello,

I have been ask numerous times how do you create your drawings and I have attempted to develop a tutorial and have failed miserable, but I had the opportunity to review a draft of this book and it everything that it claims. I have completed a number of projects where I only used photos for reference, they are posted here:

http://www.angelfire.com/scifi2/wizardofflight/

and

http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/misc/wol/

as well as all of my Boba and Jango Fett templates and Star Wars Blaster drawings and the techniques in this book are just the ticket.  I had to learn them the hard way, but this book would have saved me a lot of time and hassles.

If you have any interest in scratch building physical or CGI models from photo references the techniques discussed in this book are essential and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to venture into this world you won't be disappointed.

MODEL DESIGN & BLUEPRINTING HANDBOOK!
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, November 12, 2006 2:57 AM

The MODEL DESIGN & BLUEPRINTING HANDBOOK Volume 1 can be pre-ordered now from http://www.ModelersNotebook.com for a limited time. This book will not be available until early next year, but limited advance copies are available next month if you pre-order now.

You may know me as the webmaster of http://www.starshipbuilder.com/ and also http://www.airshipmodeler.com/ I am an artist and designer with nearly 20 years of drafting experience. Over the years, I've tackled some difficult subjects and many of these projects can be seen on my 2 sites. Many have asked me how I can make such accurate blueprints. It seems no books on this subject have ever been published specifically for modelers.

After nearly a year of work, I wrote and illustrated a new book for both 3D and traditional modelers. It is over 260 pages with more than 230 detailed illustrations. Please visit the above link for more information. Please note you must pre-order now to get an advance copy before the end of this year.
