If shermanfreak keeps posting at the rate he is posting at now... it will take about a year and a half for him to reach 10,000, so I don't think we should worry about this problem yet.

Stars are earned by posting and I think that is all that there is to it. It has been the system that is being implemented here even before most of us became members here.

I have 5 stars and so many posts but I am the last person to think that this means I am an expert or a professional in the field of modeling. I just love to post that's all. There are many other members here who can do much better than me but have much less number of posts.
And I recognize that fact.

The forum is here for interaction between members. As long as we are posting within the guidelines of the forum I think there is nothing wrong with it. So post on without regard for them stars. Let's make this forum as lively as possible.

i voted 'No'. In the first place why do we need ranks here? we don't belong to a military organization or anything. It's just a forum where fellow modelers exchange info about themselves.

Sign - Ditto [#ditto] Just look at the work of rtvmodeler. I can't come close to that level of skill.

Of course, the number of stars does not equal the level of modelling skill or experience...that has never been suggested by anybody, and I seriously doubt that anybody thinks that.

I certainly don't think the stars are anything to get uptight about, either. Just a bit of fun!

The more fun you have here, the more you'll post, and the more stars you'll get.
As I said previously, the number beneath the stars should be a good enough indicator of a member's "experience" here in the forums, which is valuable information.

Have fun and post, folks! No sense in worrying about stars (or getting even more stars)!

I suppose you could always steal a trick from Karate. They work up through the belts till they reach black belt, then they have 2nd dan black belt, 3rd dan, etc. Perhaps something similar could be adopted to keep those with thousands of posts happy?

In the queue: 1/48 Beech Staggerwing (RAAF), P38 (RAAF), Vultee Vengeance (RAAF), Spitfire Vb (Malta), Spitfire VIII x2 (RAAF), P39 x2 (RAAF), Martin Baltimore (Malta?), Martin Maryland (Malta), Typhoon NF1b, Hellcat x2 (FAA)

If we did away with the stars and ranks would anyone be upset?

Just a question.

Renarts made a good point and others have said it in the past. I liked them in the beginning, but looking back on the past couple of years of we've been using the forums on Kalmbach's many websites, if I had to do it over, I really would think twice about it. The questions, confusion, etc. to me outweighs the "fun" factor. Don't get me wrong, this community has had a lot of fun with them and the stars/ranks have been a nice touch, but perhaps it's time to rethink it??

Just thinking out loud. Smile [:)]

Lose the rank system altogether. Keeps everything simple and no competition. I like the KISS system the bestMy 2 cents [2c]

Im fine with them just the way they r. Yes at the end of the day they mean nothing but i like them anyway. Still take me a while to get to 500. And yes just for the sake of it i would like to see a promotion.

Keep well.

It's nice to acknowledge a member when he hits a milestone, but after every 1000th post it sort of becomes repetitive. Though I do like Joe's obligitory toasts.
