I need to review painting 101. After shaking/mixing the acrylics for a few minutes, the paint was already extremley thin. It's almost like a wash when it goes on, As for the AB...I'm thinking it would just be a nice toy to have. Laugh [(-D]

mcgreggor57.

You should be ok with either a brush-paint job or rattle-cans, no real need for an AB
on 1/12 scale Bikes.
Unless of course you want to add your own custom paint scheme and get a flawless clean metallic look on some parts. Wink [;)]

If you use a brush might I suggest adding a retarder to the thinner, many airbrush
thinners got that already in. Also sold under the name of "levelling thinner".

The Retarder delays the drying time and also helps smooth out brushstrokes, hit it afterwards with a good polishing compound, add your decals and polish with a modelling wax and you should be ok.

Thanks FreedomEagle1953. I just picked up my first model and now have to decide on the paint and application. (So many choices...so little $$). I'll probably just go the brush route on this one and maybe look into getting into ABing a little later. Since I'm starting w/ 0 supplies, tools etc, my overhead will be a little higher on this build.

Brookfield huh? I spent 10 yrs in the South End area (Cal City and Hammond)

Yes, they are in 1/12 scale. Nice Models not as high quality as Tamiya though, but very easy to do conversions on.
Some of the Kits come with a LOT of spares that are not needed in the build.

Good eye. It is indeed the Steed (in your neck of the woods) It's the VLX. Too bad we can't get the springer front end here. That would be at the top of my wish list.

I just picked up the Tamiya XV 1600 Roadstar for my first foray into this hobby. We'll see how it goes. LOL

As for rides, this is mine, except for a recently added Memphis Shades.

If we are comparing rides here goes:

Heavily modified CB750C, long list of stuff. Toughest was the widened Rear rim in a Katana swingarm, took 2 rear rims to make it.

My Commuting Bike, stock except for the paint job and the 2in1 exhaust.

Cool. Our spare room has been a magnet for bike related stuff. I figured it was about time to put some scale stuff in there as well. Keep the rubber side down.

My spare bedroom is on the same level only with airplane stuff (I even have a P40 Warhawk coming out of the ceiling as a fan) LOL Welcome Mcgreggor, you'll fit in here perfectly!!!

PE or P/E stands for Photo-etch Brass. It's fine (expensive) brass sheets used for small details, like handholds, ladders, railing, screens, etc.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. I'm quite active as a moderator on several of the Delphi platform forums and warm welcomes are always appreciated Big Smile [:D].

I'm also a big believer in supporting the local economy and, as such, will try to get plugged into some of the local hobby stores in the area. (Plus, I want to begin playing right now and not wait on the shipping.) I've noticed the letters PE being used in several posts. What does that stand for? Thanks

Neat. Have you put any of Yamaha's paper models together yet?

No, sorry only did a Harley FLH Classic.

If you want to build custom Bikes, have a look at the Aoshima range. They are mostly older models and more roadbikes but an easily be converted.
