A quick hello from Holland, and how do you post pics here?
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, February 22, 2004 2:28 PM
Hi there folks,

I have been looking in on this forum a few times over the past year, but have only really taken a good look last week. Not entirely by coincidence, I have recently started to complete a few not-yet-finished models, and could use some advice. I was amazed at the amount of specialised information the members here have!
Although I'm way below the average skill level here (I think), I will try to help folks where I can. As far as learning from mistakes goes, I have probably accumulated quite a bit of experienceBig Smile [:D]
Okay, a quick word about me. I was born in Holland in the last century (okay 1970), am a guy and am living together with a quite understanding girlfriend. She actually lets me keep a small show-case in the living-roomBow [bow]. I started modeling when I was about 6 or 7 years old, when my uncle in England bought me an Airfix Stirling kit: a bit complicated at that age, but it was coooool, and I was hooked! It's been mainly WW2 aircraft and tanks ever since, with a short -I'm into girls now, can't build models- break. When I moved out of the house, i immediately bought an aircraft kit and started reading magazines to get better. These days I build anything to 1/48 scale, but will also do 1/32 and 1/72. I also build a lot of armor, mainly WW2, with a bias towards german self-propelled guns. I also like to do something completely different sometimes, like a u-boat or a vinyl Marvel figure or the Millennium Falcon. It's all goodBig Smile [:D]
Once I learn how to post pictures here, I might be able to show some of my (below average, but still had fun!) models. I would love to hear a how-to on that oneConfused [%-)]
Anyway, that's me in a nutshell, hope to talk to lots of you in the future.

Cheers,

Filibert

Welcome to FSM Filibert.

To post pics, the first thing you need to find is a "host", a site on the internet that allows you to upload your pics and then link to them. There are many out there, but here's one that our members use quite often.
http://rongeorge.com/modules/Gallery/upload
go to login password = newfsm user name = models

Next you need to follow the instructions as posted in this thread as to how to hyperlink your pics from that site to here.
http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4462

Give it a try in the testing forum and if you run into problems one of the members will pop in and try to help you out.

Enjoy the forums and see you around the Armour Forum !!!

Thanks everybody! I'm starting to feel right at home here with all of these nice welcomes! It may be a week before I can post pics, because that involves borrowing a digital camera Whistling [:-^], but it'll happen eventually. Should I post them in this forum of in the appropriate ones about planes, tanks etc.?

A little update on my attempts to post pics here. Unfortunately, I'm unable to login to the rongeorge.com website, because of a wrong username and/or password. I've tried the ones mentioned by Shermanfreak (models/newfsm), but that didn't work. Neither did my fsm forum password (which I sort-of expected). What am I doing wrong?Confused [%-)]

Hey, Filibert! Firstly, welcome to the Forums! Though i haven't been there recently, i have heard that Ron's site has been acting kind of funny... If you want a hosting site, try dong a search for a topic started by David Voss (admin) about hosting sites. the one i currently use is ripway, and best of all, it's free! Smile [:)]

Welcome. I only got to spend 2 1/2 days in the Netherlands and I loved every minute of it. I hope to revisit it and take my mom. She loved the pictures and the plants.

Thanks guys and girl! Cassibill, nice to hear you liked Holland, but where did you run into plants in this country? I always feel it's pretty overpopulated and most of the plants are grown in greenhouses Wink [;)]. Of course, living in one of the world's busiest port-cities doesn't helpBig Smile [:D]. I imagine Indiana might be a lot prettier (although we do have some nice old cities over here, it ain't all bad Smile [:)] ).
Erock 68, that's one nice ueber-Tiger you have there, my friend! Very nice camouflage scheme (did you use stencils for the little rectangles?). Is it RC, or static?Approve [^]

Funny you should say run into. While up in Amsterdam, some friends and I went on a little trip in the canal bikes and we bumped into one of the floating gardens. My mom instantly loved them when she saw the pics. She wanted to put water lillies on the pond but couldn't because of our gese and the difficulty of bringing them in as they'd freeze. We're gonna add a short fence around the edge of the frame to keep the geese out and simply anchor them to stakes around the edges and voila easily towed in and wintered in the barn when the bulbs are dormant. Mom gets her lillies and I get an attraction to add to the list of things I want to show my mother when she retires. She'd like Europe.
I guess being from the country I'm used to seeing plants so I notice them when they are to be found.

Eureka! Thanks for the advice folks! Now I just need to borrow me a digital camera or a scanner and I'm in businessBig Smile [:D]Cool [8D].
Cassibill, I'm almost ashamed to admit it, but I had never heard about those floating gardensBlush [:I]. Well, Amsterdam is always a bit different isn't it? The other point you made is a good one: we always tend to take for granted what's right on our doorstep. That's probably why I take my best pictures abroad: when you see something for the first time, you really LOOK at it. Anyway, nice to see you and your mom are rebuilding a bit of Holland over on yonder side of the big pondWink [;)].

They aren't big, just numerous. A simple wooden frame with a wire mesh box on the bottom. The plants sit in the box and the wood frame makes the thing float. They're usually the size of a desk and just float along the edges in the canals. I've heard on paleontologists filtering that way. I've even done that onc but the deepening the container so part of it is under water, that's new.
I know what you mean about pics. I've seen beautiful things in my own back yard but photograph it.. never. Cows wandering throught the dig site. I took 6! 15 rolls of film in a month in Europe and I've taken 3 1/2 in the 6 mths I've been home. Most of those have been of kittens, models, or inventory photos for my militaria and fossil collection.
I gues the song is right...

You blue might be gray, your less might be more
Your window to the world might be your own front door
Your shiniest day might come in the middle of the night
That’s just about right

Thank you very much!

Yes, for the rectangles, I used a piece of styrene plastic with the rectangle shape punched into it. For 1/35, I usually do the Ambush Scheme free-hand. With the size of this kit, I had a chance to use a stencil.

The kit itself is Tamiya's 1/16 Full Option kit ( Sound, turret rotation and elevation, main gun recoil, main gun flash and machine gun flash)
