Hello Everyone
Posted by The Drifter on Thursday, January 17, 2019 6:53 PM

Hello,

My name is Jeff, and I am from the Southeast area of Kentucky. I am 3 years away from retiring and I have been a huge fan and supporter of scale modeling. I have NEVER built a model, but have attended 6 shows over a 4 year period. I wanted to get started along time ago but never had the time to devote myself without having to stop and restart over and over. I'm sure all of you have encountered that.

A breif bio: I have been married to my very best friend, and lovely wife for 33 years. We have 2 children (Both of whom are married and have careers).I did a 4 year tour in the Army(11B). I have been a Lineman Supervisor for the electrical company for 31 years as of Dec. '18 and have enjoyed it. I enjoy the outdoors, cooking, military and world history, DIY and of coarse scale modeling. I have spent the last 5 years aquiring all of my supplies and kits. I plan on building a few kits prior to getting into what drew me into scale modeling...Dioramas!

I look forward to getting to know all of you, and I have been trolling the forums for the past few months so I have an idea of where to post my questions.

Best regards,

Jeff

Hello Jeff and welcome you sound very organised. I started to build Airfix's 1:32 1930 Bentley in October it was supposed to be over a few Saturday mornings. To be fair to myself I did decide to use the airbrush for the first time lots to learn but great fun.

Welcome aboard Jeff, never to late to start. Good idea to build a few kits before starting diorama's, i might suggest some figure sets as well.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Thank you everyone for the kind and warm welcome. I look forward to being a contributing member and the conversations. Plus I have picked up on some very insightful tips and suggestions from everything I have read so far.

Bish - You touched on something (Figures) that I have been doing a lot of homework on  that so I do it correctly. I have had the opportunity to pick up a few figure kits at a low price, and I plan on practicing on them Big Smile

I apologize, I forgot to mention in my first post the areas that interest me. I am interested in WWII armour and aircrafts, modern armour and Japanese aircraft. My true favorite is the German WWII Halftrack and self-propelled artillery.

Thank you again for the warm welcome.

Jeff

Howdy !

The Drifter
and I have been trolling the forums for the past few months so I have an idea of where to post my questions.

How dare you sir.... Spying on us, and "lurking" ... that's just not right...

( What's that ? ..... I did the same thing ?    Who told you that ? ... I DID ????? .... well that just prove's that I dont know what I'm talking about !

AHEM.... Anyway's .

The Drifter
I plan on building a few kits prior to getting into what drew me into scale modeling...Dioramas!

You should pick up a few Model railroading book's on scenery, I find them to be a big help with Diorama's...... But, be careful. You could "EASILY" be tricked into building Train's !

( And that, I DO know what I'm talking about ! )

Welcome to FSM.

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

You've been acquiring kits and supplies over the last 5 years, but have never built a model? Surprise You must have rehearsed the build in your mind many times then Wink

Hope you have as much fun here as I am.

Yes (laughing) I am guilty of lerking in the shadows. I have done this so I knew where to post, and to see how everyone interacted. I must say everyone here is friendly, out going, very helpful. I also like the topics and wonderful conversations. Other forums, IMHO are dry, and lack a lot of what's here.

Yes sir I have. I did so because I know that this is going to be my hobby during retirement, and I purchased things when they were onsale, or at a modeling show with a cheap price tag. I plan on doing my very best at learning as much as I can, and to have as much fun at this as I can.

Hi, Jeff

Since your in SE Kentucky hopefully we'll see you at some shows up here in Ohio. Maybe at the IPMS Nationals in Chattanooga in August. You don't have to go for the whole show but you wouldn't see everything if you don't.

You'll find all kinds of help learning to post pictures in the tech assist forum. There are several sites to choose from for hosting and with the help on these forums you'll be posting in no time. I think got it down in about 3 or 4 trys. Like very thing else, just practice, practice, practice. And don't be afraid to ask, we've all been there.
