Hello,

Been lurking this site and forum, on and off for years but just joind.

Been building models since I was a kid and am now in spitting distance of retirement. Ships have been my favored subject, all kinds but I've been known to go off on multi year Armor and Aircraft tangents. About the only popular subject I never got into was autos.

My current tangent is 3D printing. I have to admit I was suprised by how little chatter there is on this forum about them. The new cheap SLA printers in particulare are so useful for replacing tiny & smallish kit parts that don't measure up to ones standards.

That said I'll try and post a couple pictures of my work.

A conventional model, Hasegawa's 1/450 Missouri with a ton of traditional modifications

And a couple 3D printed and assembled projects: USS Texas and a US m26 Pershing tank

Welcome

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Welcome.  What scale are your 3d printed models?  And how long do they take to print?

Thanks,

John

For better or worse Hasegawa got me hooked on 1/450 scale ships.

The Pershing is 1/35.

I print my models in ways that I get the best printer results and from my experience with the low cost consumer 3D printers, that means they are printed in parts. I then need to fix, sand and assemble the parts very much like a traditional model. The print time is usually a fraction of the build time but can take anywhere from 2 to 20 hrs for the models I've made to date.

It can take longer but I'm not willing to let it, so I either dial back the quality settings or part size.
