Thanks for all the info. Although I live in New York, I spend 3-4 weeks each summer in Phoenix, so this year I plan to shift my visit so that I can attend the event. The heat can be pretty brutal during the middle of the day, but everywhere you need to go (mostly) is indoors and air-conditioned. When I lived in Phoenix, I often brought a jacket or sweater to work during the summer because the inside temp is so dramatically lower. Early morning or after sunset the outside temps are fine.

I hope to see some forum members at the event.As a recent returnee to the hobby, I am not familiar with these conventions, so I expect to learn a lot.

IPMS gave up the majority plastic requirement for their competition several years ago.    Your plastic kits may compete against plastic, wooden, paper, resin, or even metal models.    They are all judged to the same standards.

This is the web page for the IPMS National Contest Committee.   It contains all sorts of useful information regarding categories, rules, and the competition handbook.    Pay special attention to the last,  for it gives a lot of information on what the judges will look for.    I believe that category 407 Sailing ships might be the destination for unpowered barges (regardless of their construction material).    Category 418 Boats would be the home of ships' boats, again regardless of their construction.    However their ultimate placement is the decision of the entry checker and ultimately the head judge.

from where they have their meetings to the southside of Bloomington is well over an hour each way (probably closer to and hour and a half drive!). What we need is to get a club started in Columbus Indiana. There is an AMPS group getting their feet wet in Southport (just a few minutes north of Greenwood); which would be about an hour from Bloomington. Exactly where are you moving to? Bedford? Or Olitic?

I live in old town Greenwood. Roughly three minutes west of the Greenwood exit on I-65 south. I have thought about asking the guys if I could join, but just never did. I seem to stay pretty busy, and a time factor would become a problem in the end. Their meetings look like they are held about fifteen miles north of me (maybe further). Where are you located?

Agreed about Omaha, it can get pretty nasty in the summer

I spent 4 years there, courtesy of the US Air Force - Offutt AFB is on the south end

One place to definitely check out there is the SAC Museum - last I was there, they had a B-36, a Vulcan, a B-58 and several other airplanes of various types

Omaha can also be very humid.  Here in Denver we don't know humid.  In '94 in Omaha, I remember sweating just standing still outside the hotel.  Or was that Indianapolis?  No, both of 'em.  I think you can forget Denver ever hosting.  We're just a bunch of old f%%ts here.  Unless Colo. Springs wants to try.  Bunch of Young Turks with energy down there.  They just did a nice Regional show.  (hint, hint).  Warm days, cool nights, beautiful scenery....aahh.

Omaha in 2011, it could be either extremely hot or decently in the mid 80s.

Indianapolis will have tons of new hotels and a new convention center by then (getting ready for the Super Bowl). I think Dayton Ohio would be a great place as well as St. Louis

I don't recall complaining. I was making a lighthearted comment, a "quip" if you will, about how I thought Chicago would be better. A year ago.

Bah!  I'm gonna miss '09 and '10.  I'll be moving back to Indiana in the next few months, but too late for Nats this year, and that means I'll be half the country away from it in 2010.  

Anyone know where its likely to be in '11?  Also, any IPMS Roscoe Turner folks, please feel free to PM me about your chapter.
