Does your wife support your hobby??

I assume soon to be wives count. I have only been modelling at home a couple of months now, so she is yet to understand the complicated nature of German armour camo schemes (which makes two of us)and she doesn't yet know a Spit from an Me. But she does take an interesting in the current build, and she has encouraged me to put shelves up so i have some display space.

She does find it rather amussing that she is dateing a geek and that i have shelves with my models and little Star Wars toys. I reckon one day i will get her to build a model. But slowly does it, got to ese her in.

          Geek is a good word as many of us have weathered the current job statistics and also have lives which include our beloved hobby. I believe they see your conviction to your goals and it shows where you'll be in 5 years. soon to be wives are seeing what kind of man you are to start a project and see it through even if a hick up in life occures which always happens.

Suer she does whenever I order anything she knows about it , I give her all the info so we can show a debit in our checking account. She always tells me order what you want just be sure to let me know once in a while she will ask me about some aspect of modeling. She is very supportive!    ACESES5

My "wife" is pretty quiet about my hobby

Mine does support my hobbies. As a total surprise to me one Xmas, she got me a mini-lathe. She saw me get frustrated trying to make barrels for a ship I was working on using an electric screwdriver as a lathe. A few years later, she went through my ship catalogs, picked out a sailing ship that she wanted me to make for our den, and ordered it. She only has one problem with my hobby. She keeps asking me "Why don't you build the kits you have before you buy more?"  Sound familiar to any of you?

Yes. And my mancave is sacred,

my frau doesn't not support my hobby. i have my own funds from my business for hooby buys and she has her side business too. she appreciates the skills involves and doesn't mind me going to meetings and workshops and LHSs and always asks how i did at contests. . i have my workshop and study to build and display models. i could probably put a nice sailing ship model in the living room but not some of the military stuff which is fine with me.

I don't want to say too much, it might bother some people that don't have it as good

I just finished switching from enamel paints to acrylics, because she is allergic to the fumes and chemicals,,,,,,,I switched because then I could build in a corner of a room, right inside the house, a dozen feet from where she spends her free time,,,,,I told her the possible expense,,,,,and then we went with the idea,,,,,,200 colors later, I am all set (about 300 bottles of paint)

she wanted me to be around her more, and yet not give up my hobby

we have gone to all the shows together, except once,,,,,,,and she is the enabler when it comes to bargains "do you have this yet,,,,,,,,how about this one,,,,,,,any of these?" for every price she sees on something that she thinks is a bargain

only "down" comment she makes is sometimes she asks me if I really "need one book for each model" when I buy some books at a show,,,,,,,,but, she gets that part now, too

I've been married over twenty years and my wife has gotten me several modeling related gifts. The ones off the top of my head were a Horizon Venom kit, Testors compressor, Spray paint booth, several other kits too.

I met my wife in Germany, we were both in the service. In addition to modeling I was (and still am) an avid Bass fisherman. Even in Germany I mail ordered tackle and models and she was understanding and supportive.

That is until we came back to the states and I wanted to actually go fishing and enter tournaments; and attend air shows.  Fishing and modeling was time away from her and that was unacceptable. Then there was the expense - her “female things” were, of course, important, but my “boy toys” weren’t.

For the last 27 years I have not had these problems.

I live alone, have a new Bass boat, and one room for displaying models as well as a huge workroom for modeling and fishing tackle.

I here you ,my wife asks me the same thing. I said it is what all modelers do. I don't think she bought it though. Bob

Let's see, a $40K reno to add an attached two-car garage complete with a built-in man cave, and the occasional out-of-the-blue surprise addition to my stash, I'd say yeah, she supports it. One thing she won't do however is play second fiddle to it, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Yes she does,I don't question how much she spends on what she wants,and she trusts me that I'm not blowing the budget on models and supplies.She critiques my work and is interested in my stuff.She doesn't go to shows with me anymore,but will got to museums and so forth:

My shop and display is in the basement,so I don't display things in our living area.So yes she is very supportive of my hobby.

We do castles & museums together, we are both history nuts, & have just done the Isle of Wight, with 2 or 3 castles, 2 Victorian forts, 3 gun emplacements & 2 old posh houses...  a donkey sanctuary (oh well)

& 1 small tank museum!  She usually reserves the option to sit in the canteen to drink coffee & do the crossword in the paper, but she did win a Canberra PR9 at an airshow, she wants it in in PRU blue, doh!

My wife is TOTALLY supportive of my hobby!  We've been married for 14 wonderful years.  We met in college when we shared an art class together.  Having said that, when we got married, she gave me her compressor and her Iwata Eclipse airbrush!  I knew from that moment that ours was going to be a marriage that would last a lifetime and beyond.

She buys models for me for Christmas.  She knows that Monograms are my favorites.  What's funny is that she always picks the models based on which box art looks the neatest.  She also knows and shares my affinity for American planes and can identify many of them.

I'll never forget this one time in particular when I had been kind of in a sour mood throughout the day.  I don't remember why but she said to me rather firmly "Would you just GET to your workbench so you can feel BETTER already?!?"  LOL!  I've never been thrown down into my man cave before but the fact that she said what she said snapped me out of my snit because I was too busy laughing.

I don't have a wife, yet, but my GF does support me and this hobby to the point she always asks me if I need to stop by the 'crack store' when we're in town.  She's actually pushing me to enter a local contest that I'm not too keen on since my primary entry kinda sucks.

She's really supportive come Christmas and my birthday- that those times it is like having a no-limit buying license for whatever I want.  I send her online links, she buys with no questions asked.

But... she doesn't yet know the difference between a Su-27B and a MiG-29M.   "they're both Russian, right?"

I get "sent to the truck" now and then,,,,,as in "okay, hurry out there and write that down so you don't forget it when you get back to your notes",,,,,then she rolls her eyes and waits for me at whatever boring place that we are at, unless I have notecards in my pocket, then she will happily pause while I scribble whatever it is that I thought of

she has seen what I am like to live with when I totally forget something I thought of earlier in the day,,,,,,,and I AM getting older and sometimes forget what,,,,,,,umm, forget ,,,,,,hmmm, time to stop, I don't know what the end of this was supposed to say

Uhhh, yes, she does. She knows I have a decent stash & doesn't bother trying to pick up gifts, knowing I likely already have it. She also graciously puts up with me using one end of the kitchen table as a workbench, constantly.

I met my wife at a model club meeting so yeah, i'd say she's supportive. While she doesn't build models she knows a lot about them and very much appreciates the artistry and work that goes into them. My wife serves as the show coordinator for our yearly contest and is the club webmaster.
