Today marks 33 years since the sinking of the other sister, the Blackthorn.  Of the 50 crew members,  23 lost their lives in this the Coast Guard’s worst peacetime disaster.

Its supposed to be replaced by the Airbus A330. According to the RAF's site, they are being upgraded with comms equipment. It wouldn't surprise me if there service was extended.

Bish

I didn't realise it was the companies name for it. As i understand it, its not going to be in RAF service much longer. I think its due to be replaced next year.

Are they replacing it with an Airbus or Boeing tanker?

Bish,

As far as I know, Tristar was Lockheed's name for the plane, in keeping with their astronomical naming scheme. I think it and the DC-10 are pretty much gone from passenger service. Sadly. Now, if I could just lay my hands on a few Otaki L1011s, I could die happy. Or maybe Zvezda will do a new one...
