Tristar, RAF 216 Sqn.

Mmm, pretty!Stick out tongue

Nicer on the outside than they are on the inside.

Especially on a 9 hour flight to Calgery or an 18 hour one to the Falklands.

Sub, how did i guess that would be next lol.

I'm sure. I only got to ride in a Tristar once: Delta flight from LAX to DFW in 1987.

Did the Soviets copy this to build Mig-15?

Both the MiG-15 and F-86 Sabre were based off German research. Not sure if it were this aircraft or not but there is a definite family resemblance.

This aircraft is indeed said to have been the inspiration for the MiG 15. Though of course the Soviets deny it. Not sure is the Sabre came from a specific aircraft or German research in general.

I promise not to post another one after this until someone else does, but I found this and discovered that Herman Wouk, the author of The Caine Mutiny, was XO of this ship and used it as inspiration for the novel. A minor character in the story was given the ship's name.

USS Southard DD-207, a Clemson class four stacker redesignated DMS after being refitted to a destroyer mine sweeeper.

Interesting history with this one. It has a possible tangent involving the submarine in question in my Ship Trivia Quiz question from yesterday.

Hey Subfixer, I just just having fun with you. You are doing a bang on job.  Wow, I have to be careful what I post. sorry. (just another reason why I am reluctant to post much, and why I like face to face so much better than these "communities").  It's  so easy to offend... really I didn't mean to, and if you were just kidding back,  I apologize for my misunderstanding.

Back to the bench, where it is safe

Doug

also wish I knew how to post pictures, just can't get that skill down.

Oh, no! I understood that you were kidding with me. My reply was in jest, too. No harm, no foul!

Utilize the "Use rich formatting" function to allow posting pictures. I usually try to get pictures that are in the public domain like wikipedia because I haven't quite figured out how to use the photo hosting sites.

That. Is. COOL!!! Here's another fun one, Avia Accord 201:4%20Discovery%20201

Two decades ago, following the collapse of the USSR, the Sokol factory at Nizhny-Novgorod diversified into light aircraft manufacture to compensate for a falling off of MiG-29 fighter orders. The general-purpose Avia Accord 201 – six seats and a rear-loading door for light freight – was the result, but it failed to attract local buyers despite achieving Russian provisional certification.

California-based Discovery Aircraft now promotes the 201 and some beefier derivatives on the U.S. market. On two 210 hp. Continental IO-360s and Hartzell props it offers a useful load of 1,927 lb. and a cruising speed of 143 kt. Not fast, but neither is the stalling speed of 59 kt. Range is 1,350 nm. plus 45 minutes. Discovery supplies a Westernized cockpit with EFIS and promises eventual Part 23 certification. If water is your wont, a floatplane version already exists.
