It is funny I just stumbled on this thread. The reason being I recently decided to beef up my meager collection of war flicks (I was always content just catching the classics on the TV.....but no longer.) Anyways for the time being I am focusing my collection on WW2, though I already own a couple others from the Vietnam genre (obviously Platoon and Apocalypse now....sadly I owned a copy of Full Metal Jacket on VHS, but no longer have a VHS player, so need to repurchase that one at some point.) Anyways what I have so far is:
Saving Private Ryan, Band Of Brothers, 1941 (classic Belushi!), Father Goose (with Carey Grant...actually one of my most favorite Carey Grant movies!), Mr. Roberts, a 4 movie deal I got off amazon with the Battle Of Britain, The Great Escape, Run Silent Run Deep and A Bridge Too Far on it, and another 4 pack deal I found with Battleground (with Van Johnson), Kelly's Heroes, Where Eagles Dare and The Dirty Dozen on it. Also got 30 Seconds Over Tokyo and The Sound Of Music (yes I know, most are probably laughing, but think about it, it is an interesting perspective about the coming to power of the Third Reich in Austria), and of course the classic The Longest Day. I was also given a copy of U571 years ago....honestly I find it only mildly good, but it was free, so.
What I still plan on adding to my collection:
Piece of Cake (this was a 6 part "Masterpiece Theater" miniseries that I saw as a kid based on a fictional squadron in the Battle Of Britain and which itself is based on a book of the same title.)
Battle of the Bulge (yeah, historically not the greatest, but it is still awesome!)
Memphis Belle (LOVED this one as a teen!!!!)
