I do have a solution involving that's gonna leave a bit of a mess to clean up, but I'm not sure if the neighbours approve Wink

I heard plenty of nice things about Finemolds so I'll keep an eye out for their kit (with some luck I might be able to find it on evilbay). Thanks for the info, buddy!

That's one hell of a shed, Pat! I'd love to have something imilar to your setup, but that's hard to do if you're living in the top floor (4th) of a house in the middle of Vienna...

Cliff: Well there is actually one Japanese subject I'd love to have in my stah: A type 89. I'd love to get my hands on that one, but there doesn't seem to be a kit of it out there?

I think FineMolds did a Type 89 at one time but HobbyLink Japan doesn't have it listed now.

I have been wanting to do the same Blacksheep. I was planning on a big one, enough for building and displaying everything. I had hoped to do it this year but have not had much work on so have had to eat into my savings. But one day I will get round to it, hopefully soon as I am out of display space.

A modelling shed, eh? Hmmmmm.... I had planned on getting a new shed next spring or so. Makes me think whether I should go big or go home. LOL! Of course, the shed has to be large enough to store rider mower, lawnmower, 2 snowblowers and patio furniture (for winter storage) plus space to work on my models I should be good to go.

Joe, Clemens, and Pat: Gee you guys are WAY too neat! Nice collections though even if they aren't leaning and crammed in the corner!

Clemens: Super nice stash- but you really need more Japanese subjects!!! Stick out tongue

This is my cabin in the garden that my wife and I built in 2009 where I build my kits.

I have around 80, about 20 planes, 4 military vehicles and the rest are cars, bikes and trucks.

The spray booth is over to the left, made up of a box, the lid hangs down in front, the top is cut out with a cooker extractor fan on top. Also in the cabin I have a large table, various lamps, one magnified and two Ikea display cabinets.

I started collecting kits around 5 years ago before I retired and spend as long as possible in the cabin Monday-Friday.

Remember , common sense is not common.

Eagle: Coming to my place might be a bit hard to do unless you fance flying all the way to Austria... Wink

Joe: Do you want a picture of how my bench looks when I'm actually working on those 190s or one of it kinda sorta cleaned up after I'm done for the day?

Rex: I have to agree with you on that one. A half-decent selection of tools is bloody expensive. AM sets aren't the cheapest part of the hobby either. My P-47 AM stuff costs at least as much as all my Jug kits. The paints aren't that expensive because I thin them quite heavily most of the time. One bottle of Gunze paint sets me back 2,90€ and Tamiya paints are 4,40€ each.

In a heart beat my friend!  If I could I most certainly would!  I loved it there when I went.

Yeah, I only replace the tracks on all kits that don't have Magic Tracks. The only exception are the big German cats, I hate using those Magic Tracks on large tanks...

Clemens shows something that gets glossed over in "stash threads"

We all show photos of piles of kits, and we all marvel at how many some people have. But Clemens shows his Paint stash, his PE stash, and his Resin parts stash. That leaves the many decal stashes, and "hobby specific" book stashes. Those other five stashes are sometimes the places that the "real money" goes to. As expensive as plastic kits seem sometimes,,,,,often that part of the hobby is the cheapest. ($4 to $6 a bottle for paint, $10 to $20 per decal sheet, $40 for a paperback book,,,,,you get the idea)

Rex

You got that right. I've got about 30 sets of Fruils still waiting to be used. It gets dammed expensive once you start adding all the extras.

LOL, I got the opposite situation here. I have about 30 kits in my stash that are waiting for a set of Friuls... Wink

Good luck. I have made it a rule that I will only replace rubber band tracks. the ones I have must have cost close to £900. If I replaced all the tracks in my Dragon kits, I would be bankrupt.

Anne's favorite story is my first Kfir (F-21A)  She found it at the '08 Nats for $3. Pretty cool, eh?,,,,,but, then if didn't have any decals,,,,so we got the Isradecal F-21 sheet. That had color call outs for the camo,,,,,,and I didn't have any of the Israeli colors in Acrylic, because I had cut non-US aircraft out of my collection.

So, I matched up the FS numbers, and bought each of the Israeli colors. And it will sit on a shelf with a ton of other kits with a resin ejection seat,,,,,,so, I got one of those. I didn't have any Kfir books, but, luckily, I found a SAMI magazine that dealt with Kfirs,,,,and the "free" D&S book on USN jets that came in one Monogram model came into my possession.

So, now I have the kit, I have the decal sheet, I have the ejection seat, I have a book and a magazine, and I have the paints,,,,,,,,,and I am less than halfway through my "one of each tail code" part of my planned collection,,,,,,,,,and the F-21A Kfir is now off topic,,,,,,,so, I have no idea of when I will start it.

that folks, is how stashes grow so large, lol (note, in my opening line, I said "first Kfir",,,,there are other options on that decal sheet, so I bought another model kit)

It also causes the "did you start the Kfir or my Dad's B-17 yet?" questions

Clemens, It is awesome to finally get to see your stash and some of your space. Magnificent collection of kits. Definitely some sweet kits. Now, how about a pic of the warehouse you'll need to display such an array of big kits. I am troubled my dear friend. I believe that your modeling enviroment is way too clean and way too organized. You need some clutter and some chaos in there so there at least looks like there is some activity going on. You know, like, maybe a pic of a bench crammed with 9 FW 190s.Wink

Well, as I recall, you were in the area just recently. If you've done it once you can do it again. You know that I would love to have you come visit Clemens.

Lots of great stashes here!

Eagle, yours comes close to a well-stocked hobby shop...

Here's mine (and my AM treasure chest)

I have plenty of room in all those drawers to store all my modelling stuff quite easily.

From top to bottom:

The first drawer holds all my tools:

The second one contains my paints:

The first 3 rows are RLM colors, the next 2 are USAAF/USN colors, followed by a row of RAF/Japanese aircraft colors. Next up are the paints I use for armor, 2 rows of generic colors and the last one for miscellanious colors (mostly for modern aircraft) To the right are a bunch of Tamiya colors I got to add to my Gunze paint lineup (mostly paints that work better for certain things or that simply aren't available in Gunze's paint range)

The drawer didn't have any rails in it to keep the jars from sliding around, so I simply bought some cheap wood profiles (1cm x 1cm) to build one myself. They are glued in place using white glue:

Next up is the drawer for all my weathering stuff as well as my scratchbuilding supplies:

the next 2 have all my aircraft AM goodies in them:

Resin:

Only the far right stuff is 1/48, the rest is 1/32. BTW, did I mention I like Aires' stuff?

PE, seatbelts, decals and masks:

The bottom drawer contains my small collection of Armor accessories:

It's not much because I usually only add a metal gun barrel and sometimes a set of Friuls to my armor builds. There are exceptions of course (in this case a Pz.IV I'm slowly working on atm)

I also got me two shelves to store my stash in (instead of stacking the boxes on the floor):

Fear not, Jay! I got half the German army here waiting for your orders! Well, not really, but still a couple of decent armor kits. I'm trying to get me some armor kits that are not Dragon, but they are just so bloody lovely kits...

From top to bottom: Modern vehicles/ Russian WW2, British/American WW2, Tiger/King TIger/Panther

German TDs/light tanks/Halftracks, Pz.III/Pz.IV, Artillery/Field guns (and Eduard's Hetzer 'cause it didn't fit anywhere else Wink)

Aircraft stash:

1/48 Jets/Dual Combos, 1/48 Allied WW2,  1/48 Allied/German WW2

1/48 German WW2, 1/32 Allied WW2, 1/32 German/Japanese WW2

I added another Pz.IV ( Dragon's Ausf.H w/ Zimmerit) after those pics were taken as well as Monogram's B-24 which I'm planning to build as "The Dragon and his Tail" at some point in the future...

It's not nearly as much as some other guys have, but it's all mine and every single one of those kits is at least decent quality-wise with some of them being real gems (the 1/48 Jugs come to mind or the big Hasegawa kits)

I notice the largest collections are usually stored in the basement .......the stashes may fall on the owner like Fibber McGee's closet contents but at least the floor joists won't give way.Whistling
