Here's the young 19 yr old Military Policeman. I was in from Feb 1981 till June/July 1984. I did basic and AIT at Ft Mcclellan Alabama and I was stationed at Ft Jackson,SC and Baumholder West Germany. After my military time I was a Deputy Sherif, City Policemen and worked for 12 years security for NASA until I was in a motorcycle accident.

Thanks to all who have served or have had to sacrifice having family members away serving.

Nice pics! After my first hitch in the RA i joined the CAARNG. my first NG unit was in Monterey area with an armor BN. the only 11 series job was 11C. we ran 4.2in mortars out of M109's. another variant of the 113. have you been to Germany?

 

 

 

 

 

yes I have been to Germany in the Army several times. REFORGER 84, as well as a few rotations as OPFOR augmentations at Hohenfels in the late 90s. Then we rotated thru there for a month prior to going to Bosnia.

  USMC 1971-1992. Been on the aviation side of the house the entire time. And during my career I had the opportunity to fly backseat in TA-4's, OV-10's, T-28's. My first TA-4 hop was with VMAT-203 doing a 1vs1 ACM. While attending an A-6 AME Framp course at Oceana  I went over to the VC-12 ops office and inquired if they take up enlisted with a backseat card. The Navy 1st class tossed me a flight schedule and said, 'sure. I can go up 2-3 times a day if I wanted too'. I flew every day after class the last two weeks I was there. On one hop I got sicker than a dog and was happy when we landed only for the pilot to hot refuel in the fuel pits and we went back up. Though I did felt better shortly after we were airborne.

The pilots of VC-12 were great, they always gave me stick time and I even flew part of a mission where for nearly an hour, Dam Creek Control was giving us coordinates routes that I would fly to. IN the pic below we were returning back to base with Virgina Beach just ahead of us.

On several of the hops I were on we would have a wingman.

I got the Classic Airframes TA-4 in the stash and plan to one day build it and depict one of the VC-12 birds.

My Great grampa fought in WW1. I have his helmet, as well as a German helmet that he brought back, in my "war room".

My Grampa (Dad's Dad)was a radio Op. on TBF's, PBY's and SNB's in WW2 (and after). No pics

My Dad started his Army career as a tank commander, in Germany. M60-A1's.

He then put in for aviation and got sent to Ft. Rucker (where I was born) and flew Hueys. First stationed at Ft. Knox. This pic is of one of his Hueys that had engine failure. He came down (auto rotating) in the only field for miles...took a bounce and the tail hit a truck. (circa 1976-77??)

This is the model I built for him.

Dad retired back in 94...hadn't flown since 91 (he was commander of 5/9 air cav at Schofield Bks. HI). The local air show had a Huey, and they were selling rides. I took my Dad as a surprise and got him a ride.(2013)

It was AWESOME!!! He had the gunners seat, and we flew with doors open. As happy as he was to be in a Huey again, it was very clear that he missed the pilots seat... a LOT.

My older brother is a USMC WSO in F-18D's with 2 tours in Iraq (Al Asad). 1st was with VMFA(AW)-332.

After returning from Iraq, the squadron was disbanded and he went on to VMFA(AW)-225 and did another tour in Iraq as well as WesPac..twice. Here's a couple pics from WesPac.

The drummer in my last band joined the USMC as well. He became a crew chief on CH-46's. He was at Al Asad at the same time as my bro was, back in 03-04.

He's now a crew chief on the V-22 "A$$ spray", as he calls it! Misses the Phrog big time!

My wife's brother was in Iraq also and was part of the occupation at the airport in Baghdad and also fought in Fallujah. He'll talk about Baghdad with no problem...but bring up Fallujah and he just goes pale and shuts right down....I can't even imagine.

Yrs, sadly my pops descended into alzheimers and I lost motivation. I still have it though and would like to build it. I've become a better modeler for sure since then, too.

That's the one I could find, and it's kind of full of holes, but interesting.

You're right, Sibs. Can't do a GB that excludes people, but it's not hard to think of a relative or friend who did.

There's a pic in there of me with my Dad in front of a B-24. No he didn't fly those, he was Guard 52-56, but he loves Liberators.

1989, Corporal Sibley, 29 Palms USMC Training Area, California. 3 week exercise. 3rd BDE, 7th ID(Light) versus combined force of USMC and 82nd ABN. At that time I was a Motor Scout in 4thBN 17th RGT Scout Platoon. My ride is a gutless 4-stroke Kawasaki KLR 250cc. We painted the bikes and our helmets with rattlecans - colors and pattern determined by the environment. The pattern was loosely set by the Bike Team leader...

Swell idea. Do a forum search for themes like "my ride". I'm sorry i can't be more helpful, but there have been several such threads since I've been around.
