I was with the 22MEU(SOC) on the USS Nassau (LHA-2) during Desert Storm. Spent 6 months in the Persian Gulf looking at lots of water. Did get to go to some really nice ports, though, and even got to go see the Great Pyramids on the way back. Stuff I never would've seen if I hadn't been in the Marines.

Stupid me... I'm surprised no one has caught this slip-up of mine yet. The LHA-2 was the Saipan, not the Nassau, althought the Saipan was in the Nassau class.......Don't know what I was thinking.....

Tarawa Class LHAs

F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!

U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

N is for NO SURVIVORS...

October, November, 1966 at Da Nang maintaining KC130F's with VMGR 152.  Most of that tour was on Okinawa.

I may get so drunk, I have to crawl home. But dammit, I'll crawl like a Marine.

After getting drafted about a month after high school I joined the Air Force.  My first assignment was at Ellsworth then it was on to the 635th Security Police Squadron at U-Tapao where I worked Law Enforcement and drove Armored vehicles with Air Base Defense during alerts.

Dover A.F.B. in time for the 1973 Yom Kippur War where we were the main shipping point and had to seal the base off from non military contacts.

Back to the war with the 388th S.P.S. at Korat, same jobs as the first time over but almost got pulleld into the Mayaguez raid, except for the fact I was already too deeply into processing out to come bact to the States.

21 1/2 years in the Corps and my wife who was Army Reserve got called up for Desert Shield/Storm is the war vet. It wasn't for lack of trying. In 72 I was at Iwakuni and tried to get orders to Ben Hoa but having station orders I was stuck in Japan.

When Desert Shield came up, I was at El Toro as a KC-130 instructor when I got  promoted to MSgt, I received orders to VMA- (AW) 242 as their maintenance chief when the Squadron took off like a bat out of hell for Saudi. I was going to join them over there the following month but the squadron got has far as Cherry Pt and was told to turn over their planes to other squadrons and the personnel were to return to El Toro for transitioning over to the F-18D. We had a lot of unhappy people. I was watching the war unfold on CNN and seeing friends of mine being interviewed while conducting KC-130 refuel missions over Iraq and knowning had I stayed with 352, I would have gone over.

Oh well, the wife can always joing the VFW and I can go as an auxiliary member Bang Head.

I remember a story when some kid asked how many German fighter were shot down by F-14 Tomcats. Good grief!!!

at least 2 Japanese Zeros were.Geeked

I was asked if I served on USS ARIZONA when I was wearing my hat. I was in armor in Germany in the late '70s and taught MILES through most of the '80s.
