II got asked that by a bunch of local high schoolers waiting for their bus. One young lady actually asked if I served with Lee or Grant ? Boy, these kids today have no concept of time or history do they?  T.B.

Her girls actually asked her once if she knew Sacagewea when she (the wife) came out with Lewis and Clark.  ROFL

Had launch keys around my neck for some live Minutemen during Cuban Missile Crisis.  That was one scary time.  My family was one day away from evacuation into safe camp in Sierras.

Vietnam, ''70, then '75 at the end.

Activated for Grenada, yes reservists were activated. Your MOS was the key.

Hey Don,

I sat on the airfield at Kadena waiting to fly to Korea in '76. We just KNEW we were heading back for a big brawl. That was scarier than Vietnam for sure.

I was a junior radioman on a WWII-retread destroyer (USS Brinkley Bass - DD887) in Viet Nam 1969-70. Did fire support for the marines, search and rescue off the northern coast and escort for the carriers Ranger and Bon Homme Richard.

I had a store clerk ask me if I flew B-17's in the war, when he noticed the B-17 patch on my jacket.  I told him I wasn't quite old enough for that.  Kids today have no idea of history.

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...

Should have told him yes.  Then either asked which war was he referring to, or told him it was in anything from 'Nam to today.  Probably would have believed you and said "cool, thanks"

I was with the 22MEU(SOC) on the USS Nassau (LHA-2) during Desert Storm. Spent 6 months in the Persian Gulf looking at lots of water. Did get to go to some really nice ports, though, and even got to go see the Great Pyramids on the way back. Stuff I never would've seen if I hadn't been in the Marines.

Stupid me... I'm surprised no one has caught this slip-up of mine yet. The LHA-2 was the Saipan, not the Nassau, althought the Saipan was in the Nassau class.......Don't know what I was thinking.....
