That is amazing!  I am honored to be affiliated with some one like you even if it's on this FSM forum thread!  Once again thank you for your experience in sharing it here!

I listen to old radio shows. Jack Benny, Amos and Andy, and gunsmoke are favorites.

I'm not much of a tv guy so the old Kenwood system is always on, modelling or not. Lately I've been on a UFO and Sammy Hagar kick. Next week who knows, Black Sabbath? KISS? Pantera? Van Halen?

Toshi ;

you remember Nate and Cannonball  Adderly , from the " Middle Jazz Period ? There was a club near where I lived called the " Royal Arms " Where they played while in Buffalo N.Y.

That was around the corner from where me and the wife and kids lived , while I was on duty there . I would do a set with them during breaks and the  audience would be surprised when they invited me to sit in .

At the time I played a Coronet . Nate said I was the only white dude he ever met that could hold a note and had that " Feelin " too .

   Gosh , I miss that time .

I confess to being an 80's metalhead.  So my go to band is Iron Maiden...but there is always some Judas Priest, Scorpions, AC/DC, etc playing too.

I knew there was something I liked about you. Exact same here. Maiden, Crue, Van Halen, Def Leppard, Priest, AC/DC, KISS, I like and listen to most of the hair bands.

OMG!  OMG!  You got to play with Nate and Canonball Adderly!  That is simply amazing.  I'm blown away.  I wish I could just see them.  And yet you played with them.  OMG!  I do remember that period very well.  It was known as the Blue Note period.  One of my idols from that period is Lee Morgan.  I just love that Blue Note sound Lee Morgan had, he played like fire!  He just burns.

You played too?  That is awesome!  Why didn't you say something?  I love it, here, we are on FSM Forums building models and you've played with Jazz Legends The Adderly Brothers!!!!!  You're the MAN!!!

I also like from that period, Rasan Roland Kirk, Booker Little and Eric Dolphy Quintet, Blue Mitchell, Freddie Hubbard, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, John Coltrane, Miles Davis (Of course one of my main idols), and too many more to add here.  These jazz legends were out of this world!  I'm  still in awe that you got to play with the Adderly brothers.

While I do some work at the bench on the C-54D Skymaster, I'll put on some Adderly brothers music that I have.  I down loaded it from YouTube onto my files on my iPhone.  That's where I get my free music from, plus a lot of it happens to be music videos of them playing.  So I get to watch and listen to them while I build.  If you did not know this, you should try it.  It's amazing and endless.  Plus it's free!  If you do know this just kindly disregard the last couple of sentences.

Tanker Builder, you are such the MAN!  Now I not only look up to you as a modeler, I look up to you as a musician!!!!!  Thank you so much for sharing that, I'm so excited now!

I painted this jacket for my son. He asked if I ever heard of a band called Iron Maiden, because you know Dad's can never be cool. I pulled out a photo of me and Steve Harris hanging out on 14th street when I was 15 or so. I'm still not cool.

Hangin out with Steve Harris...pffff...NERD!!!!Stick out tongue

I'd love to meet that guy! I did get to meet and hang out a bit with Markus Grosskopf and "Weiki" (bass and guitar) of Helloween. The combo of Harris and Grosskopf are the reason I started playing bass (switched over to guitar eary on though).

Back in high school, I used some model paints and painted the Seventh Son cover on the back of my jeans jacket...coolest jacket in the school! I, stupidly, let my g/f at the time wear it home one day. When she gave it back, she had outlined everything with bright colored bubble paint....RUINED...straight to the trash can...I threw the jacket away too.

That jacket is BAD@SS ...way better than mine was!!!

Thanks. That was back when Maiden was warming up for Priest in a small capacity place in NYC.  It was Bruce's first shot with the band and he didn't make a good impression, kind of blew us off and grabbed Harris for the sound check. We were die hard Di'Anno fans and kinda hissed at this new guy. He got better...

I got into Maiden back then because I played bass and he was at least doing something more that the traditional single note nonsense most metal bands did. Same with Zep, Sabbath and ultimately years later, RHCP. That's all I really play these days, Musicman basses through GK amps playing Flea covers.

My son plays bass too and when he said he liked Maiden, I showed him Killers and Transylvania (only ones I could remember off the top of my head) but it didn't dent the uncoolness factor of Daddio. They grew up with the background noise of me slapping away on a Stingray. I grew up with Swedish polkas on 78.

Go figure.

Baseball or basketball or nothing.

Away from the bench, pre-20th century classical, and jazz.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Mostly 80s rock tunes on the radio.  We have three stations to choose from, soft, medium and hard.  The hard rock station plays mostly heavy metal/death metal late at night, which is NOT to my liking while trying to get a stubborn part to fit!

Sometimes if I can, I listen to in-theme music, like the Aliens soundtrack while I was building the Halcyon APC.  Will have to put it back on the playlist when the Dropship hits the workbench.

I have noticed as I get older, even music can be distracting while I build.  The concentration goes off track.  That's why I stopped listening to the radio at work.

North central Ohio.....If you have a Drugmart in the area, they have most of revel-monogram basics. I picked up that Amt Ju 88 at ollies, along with a Amt Glouster Meteor just to practice on. Love Ollies!

I do believe I recall seeing it before.

One of favorite songs from that album...although the chorus could be...uh...not so cheesy/simple. That album, to me, was the begining of the downhill slope. Fear of the Dark gave em some redemption, but after that....meh(studio/sound/production-wise), there's just nothing that "grabs" me, like their earlier stuff. I'll still go see em live, every chance I get though!

I just got this in, today...

The date stamp on my music is also the Blue Note Jazz era. I started listening when I was a teen in suburban Philadelphia, and have always come back to that music after serious sidetracks into 60's rock, country and other genres.

We're fortunate to have an NPR station that plays an eclectic mix of Blues, Singer-songwriter, Jazz and Folk from 9-3 weekdays, so it's that or the CD player. Right now what's up is John Fogerty's "Wrote a Song for Everyone", Art Blakey, Ben Flocks and a few other Jazz CD's. When I need to kick it up, Electric Ladyland works every time!

Happy New Year!

generically classical, new age, and movie scores. if i need something to get the blood flowing Lady Gaga or Two Steps From Hell. sometimes it is model (or wargame) specific. Russian, German, Finnish, war movie scores appropriate to the build or game.

I usually listen to a ball game (or puck game...lol).    When I want to listen to music it's usually something heavy (Metallica, Slipknot, etc or classic rock (Van Halen, Led Zep, ZZ Top).  I don't like that the music I grew up on is now on the classic rock station. Surprise  I listen to alot of iHeart radio.
