Hey all,

I know this is a slightly old past, but I've been trying to deal with getting pictures off of PB for a bit. I ran across a process - slightly techy, but it works (I happen to have a linux virtual machine for rare testing and such, but this seems to be able to work on Windows, from my understanding. )

https://gist.github.com/philipjewell/a9e1eae2d999a2529a08c15b06deb13d

Also possibly useful, https://www.howtogeek.com/249966/how-to-install-and-use-the-linux-bash-shell-on-windows-10/ .

Took under an hour (I had a *lot* of albums, and 3500 or so pictures... 1.5 gig.)

So what does everybody recommend as a photosharing site?

Cheers

Sharkbait.

NO!!! NOT FOTKI!!  I'm going to use www.picturetrail.com  This site doesn't cost anything and it works basically the same as PB. Only without having to join the $500.00 club!

I've been using Imgur. It's free and I haven't had any issues.

I'm using Fotki. I don't recall the exact details but for about $24 a year ad free.

Pretty fast

I would really like to know what people are doing to download whole albums. I did the first one ok, but now every time I try to download one, after I click the "I'm not a robot button," it gives me some error across the top telling me something went wrong and to try again. Try again, same exact thing happens.

Yeah, I ran into the same bug when I tried to download an album from Photobucket.  I tried twice, just to make sure it wasn't an isolated occurrence, then just downloaded the images individually.  I wasn't going to bother following up with PB about it.  F 'em.

So Arcangel, from your desktop you can download all your content in on easy step. Takes about 5 minutes.

then just walk away

Having been too busy with other things than building models and taking pics of them, I wasn't aware of what Photobucket did till this evening when I tried to upload and post a pic on FSM. Then I came across their news about wanting money so to post my pics to a third party site. Bad enough trying to upload and get to the print I want so to copy the IMG code to post here through all the pop ads that plagues that site, heck if I'm going to pay for it too.

I was just going through my Spam folder and found all of the emails from pb requesting I go to $$$$ mode.

I felt so left out by not getting these like you all did.

Well, aparrently at this point Google Chrome has pbdeals.com on their *** list.

What amazed me was:

I share about 20 photos a year.

So I went to the PH website thinking a nominal fee would be required.

Nope 399$ !

What the heck 399$ !!!!

Not amused

And you just found out this now? ROFLMAO!!

I downloaded all 2500 onto my own server in under 5 minutes, and left them on photobucket.

i can't see any reason to bother deleting them.

According to their terms, they'll expect that the user select one of their paid plans. If no plan is selected, they'll put the account into their one free plan, which holds a couple of hundred and arbitrarily delete the others.

Fine, what do I care?

I just got the latest update in this fiasco, an email from Photobucket announcing that I am a member of a "select group" of subscription customers, who are being offered the opportunity to beta-test a monthly option of the Plus500 account.

I don't know who they think will want to take it, but I had to chuckle.

"Who are the ad wizards who came up with this one?!"

I just copied all my photos to my new computer. It took me about eight hours to get the first batch copied. I had to wait until friday to finish saving the last 1800 photos that I had saved to my account. I deleted the one I used for posting here. The other one I started for extra bandwidth I kept, but I won't be using ever again. NO ONE tells me what to do with MY pictures - especially when they're holding them hostage!!! Angry I don't need anyone else to make my life harder, or more miserable than it needs to be! I'll look around for another website to host from. In the meantime I need to concentrate on getting my projects done as soon as possible. Save all your photos then check the boxes, then delete them, then delete each library until you only have one left, then delete all the photos from it. After that then you can delete your account. It won't matter if they don't delete it once all your photos are gone from their site. This way they can't blackmail you into paying for the "Premium membership" at $500.00!!!

I have a paid account, the Plus50.  I've wondered why I have yet to get the email announcing the change in plans.  I think I just got my answer.  I was at PB and saw a banner on the top of the page, to read about the changes:

http://blog.photobucket.com/please-review-latest-changes-photobucket/

People who have accounts other than the Plus500 account, whose accounts are in good standing as of June 17, will continue to have 3rd part hosting until the end of 2018, as long as we have paid our subscriptions.  So, I have some time, which is what I figured.

I haven't been on eBay for a little while, but I was on Amazon over the weekend ordering replacement parts for an older gas grill.

Lots of gray boxes. I guess if I had an online store that made my living, I really would feel blackmailed.

GMorrison

It is a reminder that it's very hard to claim sole rights to something once it's put up on the internet.

But that's different from taking those rights away from the post originator.

But yes, expect anything we post to get used in ways that make value for others.

And that's why I won't post anything that I don't want the whole world to see! I'm glad that I saw this today - I've been wanting to come back to the forum now that I have the modeling bug biting me again. However, I also would like to figure out how to host pictures another way rather than going through third party companies that I'm forced to trust with my photos then doing this! I'm going to log in to my account to see what's happening. I don't need to save anything from Photobucket I have all this saved on my computers, discs, and my One Drive in my email account. This way I can always access them when I need to. I just don't want all the things that I made such as tag lines, videos, Avatars, etc, being sold to the highest bidder. I'll just delete all my photos since none of them are showing up anyway. This is horrible that this has happened - I've spent dozens, maybe even HUNDREDS of hours just posting, and editing these photos to all the different modeling forums that I'm a member of! Well, I guess that are of our efforts are in vain since no one can see anything we've posted - it's all just words now. (sad face)

This is from photobuckets terms of use...

littletimmy
you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, non-revocable, right and license to copy, sell, convey, distribute, stream, post, publicly display (e.g. post it elsewhere), reproduce and create derivative works from it (meaning things based on it), whether in print or any kind of electronic version that exists now or is later developed, for any purpose, including a commercial purpose with the right to sublicense such rights to others.

I'm no lawyer either, but this seems to me to be a contract that sells our rights to PB the moment we agreed to their terms of use.

Timmy,

Why do you think they own the rights.? I don't see that anywhere in their terms. But I'm not a lawyer.

What I understand is that they do have the right to delete them from their site.

They've screwed this up. And it's really too bad, because all over the internet now I see their grey boxes.

I'm not trying to tell anybody they have do do anything. Lord knows I cant even get the dog to sit or roll over.... I just want everyone to understand that Photobucket now own's the rights to your photos .

That means they can sue you if you post a picture anywhere if it's already on their site.

I doubt they would take the time or expense to actually do that, but it is a possabillity.

Exactly... download your stuff, save it someplace secure like an external hard drive, and find a new host site to post your image from. But leave your stuff on their site just in case by some act of providence that they reverse this moronic action, or simply to tie up space on their server...

I plan to do neither, Timmy. They will, no doubt, but it's not worth the time and effort to me. I've grabbed everything already. Like a house move, a good time to sort, organize and THROW OUT a lot of stuff.

Because I'm a cut-up like Carlos, a lot of images I grabbed as art to go with a joke. Kind of useless without the joke.

95% of my photos on PB are my model stuff... nothing much that would make them any money....

the rest is photos downloaded online, or my private albums of family stuff...

is there any reason not to leave account open? I don't see where they are going to start charging.

DO NOT LEAVE ANY PHOTOS ON PHOTOBUCKET !!!!!

According to their terms of use your pictures now belong to them. They can sell them, or turn them into posters, or make them into shirts, they can even sell them back to you!

The second you loaded their site with your pictures they became "property of photo bucket"

Dont give them the satisfaction of using your pictures to make money!
