Where are they?
Posted by Bakster on Friday, December 7, 2018 11:41 PM

I have been doing searches on this forum and I have come across people that have seemingly disappeared. More and more I ponder on what happened to all the people that posted here over the years. Did they drop the hobby? Did they get tired of this forum? Where has everyone gone? It's kind of sad.

Personally, I have a tendency to rotate hobbies.  I have so many and I get fixated on what my current interest is.  There’re guys on the ModernMopar and Mustang forums that are asking this same question lol.  I do get concerned about some folks as they have expressed health issues etc.  But I think most folks either find a more active forum (truly an issue here) or get distracted by the next shiny thing.  I may disappear again if I can find a way to get my 760RWHP Charger street legal..lol   Or fix my broken TREX450 RC helicopter, or go out on a particularly successful albacore fishing trip.. could go on and on.

Thanks,

John

Yes, I often think of ones I conversed with frequently, Hunter, CodyJ, Matt-Joachim, ModelMan68, RudyOnWheels. Hunter and CodyJ just got busy with other of life's circumstances and ModelMan68, Hunter's father, passed.

There are a few I see on very very rare occasions.

There have a been a lot of names who have gone over the years. Some of those who come to my mind are Dupes, Wbill, SML and of course HvM. I know Bill and Dupes were active on another forum a while back, but i think people come and go for many different reasons.

Steve, were you aware that Hunter passed away earlier this year?

Thanks for chiming in, guys.

I came to the party late, I think 4 years ago or so. I have seen activity drop even from then. It's too bad,it really is.

It’d be nice if old Hans von Hammer came back. He did so briefly under a new screen name after the last forum update, but has been silent for a couple years now.

I don't know,if they would have stayed and kept posting,it would have been a more active forum.Sometimes its a flavor of the month thing too.

I haven't seen Doog around here in forever. Subfixer, and who can forget Manstiens Revenge....Manny to many.

Life has a way of moving priorities, this being a hobby for most usually gets put aside for other pressing matters. I would like to think that some of the old mainstays would be welcomed back if they chose to do so.

It could be the demigraphics of the forums have changed over time too, some folksonly want details and facts about modeling, others, myself included at times, tend to share more personal and or private issues. That may make some uncomfortable so they move on to places that "feel" better to them.

I also wonder about folks who have been silent for a long time....I wish them good health, and HAPPY MODELLING,. This is a small rock we live on most paths will cross again in time.

we're modelers it's what we do

Funny this thread started, I was thinking the other day, whatever happened to Jibber?

Last I've seen of him was when he was in the Dino GB.

Maybe they just got busy doing other things. I am retired, yet for some reason I have been so busy lately that I have no time to work on models. If you ask me what I do all day I would say that I don't know, but it takes all day to do it. Lately I have gotten into cooking recipies that take hours to prepare like Beef  Bourguignon (French beef stew cooked in a bottle of Burgundy wine).

Your comments and questions are always welcome.

Due to my living situation,I have not worked on models for almost a year,I still check in because I like to conversate with the regulars, see whats going on,and keep the forums going, which are a valuable resource. If you really want to post something, you can find the time.If its no longer important to you, then it just fades away like it has for many.

Well as for me, between work, the wife, the dog, yard work, weapons cleaning and one thing after another always poping up, it's been rough trying to just get some quality time at the bench. Then bouncing around a dozen builds in progress with no end in sight have put me in a rut. And I got tired of trying to find a workable Photo site that I can use to post model pics. Be nice if one can just click and drag a photo onto FSM. But I'm hangin in there.

I found that working on multiple models at the same time did not work for me. It just seemed that I was working on models yet nothing was getting accomplished. Some modelers can do that, I can't. I use IMGUR for posting my photos. It is kind of klunky, but it is free and it does work.

Hey Tojo. I seem to recall a thread that you posted about you living situation. I think you were moving or moved. Why can't you build? What's going on?

I miss TexGunner. He got tossed out unfairly IMO and he refuses to come back. We still email now and then. Doogs AT is another great modeler that left  and has his own website with lots of great stuff.

I too try to balance this hobby with my other ones, the grandkids, home stuff and general life things.

Steve, were you aware that Hunter passed away earlier this year?

Wait. what? I didn't know that, he used to email me on occasion. He was a firefighter in Montana, an d they were building a new house, do you know what happened?

His poor wife Jill, first they loose a baby then she looses her husband Crying
