Here the liquor stores are run by individuals contracted to the state....as long as their warehouse holds out we're good.  Booze and pot considered essential by our governor.

 

By order of DHS, I'm considered to be essential. My employer works in concert with the USPS so I have my card that ID's me as essential.

Unfortunately most of my co-workers are not native and have no sense of space let alone social distancing and are lacking in any personal hygiene skills. Needless to say that after touching any and all surfaces, I'm washing and sanitizing my hands. I use my own safety glasses instead of the ones at each machine and require the machine crews be moved before I commence any repair work no matter how small the job. 

As a physician, I am considered essential. However as a physician, I can also tell you that none of us are essential. 

The world will still spin around whether any of us are here or not. People will still go on wheather we are here or not.

You won't see those printers for another 2 or 3 years on the shelves, a month isn't going to make any diffrence. If I catch this thing it would probably kill me in a very short time me due to my lung transplant and the immunosuppressants I take. makes no since.

Steve, because of your condition, are you not exempt from working. Over here, 1.5million people with series conditions that can put them more at risk and been sent letters and told they must stay at home.

I can’t see the fate of the nation, public safety, production and distribution of foodstuffs, or healthcare failing due to R&D of printers, and therefore deemed essential. But, if by some convoluted stretch of logic it can be convincingly argued, isn’t that a computer based job and can be done online from home during the duration of this event?

Contact your doc, have him send you and boss a letter stating the obvious.  Then if they fire you, sue the crap out of them.

I'm with you Stick. No, my work is done on a workbench, microscope and confidential PC boards and equipment, I can not take them home. The regular workers and engineers "the ones with the whitw badges) are all gone leaving just us contracted workers (orange badges). They say we are so important but don't bat an eye when they furlough us for 3 weeks four times a year, including the month in Dec.

So, I sit here at my workbench, with nothing to do because the "regulars" are gone, bingeing some show on Netflix and staying safe.

I used to work security there in Palo Alto, CA for a few years.

I'm not....but the boss has decided yesterday as long as we have parts we finish what is in the shop.  Plenty of room for the three of us, each has their own bay to work in.

Once the current cars are out then we are shut down, no idea for how long, or how long to ramp back up once the re-boot happens.

 

I am in a similar boat, Goldhammer.  I work for a corporate, coast to coast collision center, as a service writer (20 years on the floor, everything from disassembly/reassembly to body repairs to paint, even a short stint as a helicopter interior fabrication finisher for Augusta...) and I have watched the cars leave the shop one by one, and not get replaced with fresh work.  We are down to one car that we are having problems getting key parts, with the last of our cars being delivered today (end of the month).

I would wager that corporate will start closing the shops that have no work, and reroute any incoming work to one or two shops in each region.  

So, as of today, I am essential staff...that might not remain true through the end of the week....

Now looks like I'll be out of a job for good, so I guess I'm not essential for much anymore.  Think they are going to shut us dowm completely (paint system going away by the end of the week) and just keep manager on and use it as a satellite shop and any work comes in goes to one of the two shops 45 miles away.

And my SS is screwed up from when they took over in 2016 and paid me more than I could make on disability for 6 months, so I won't see any SS till Oct..............

Thanks guys.  Apprecite the thought but not into commutes over 20 miles.Have been thinking of hanging it up anyway, getting harder to do on a daily basis with my health issues.   Looks like we can make it till things straighten out this fall.

Got enough to do this spring and summer with the remodel.

They might still use me as an on call for small quick stuff like window problems, etc.

My SS takes care of the bills, what I made there is my play $$.  So that will cut back quite a bit..

GH, I'm in the same boat my friend.  I got laid off on March 5th and of course nobody is hiring. Oh well, there's a silver lining to our stories I'm sure.  We just have to dig a little further to find it. 

Worse comes to worse, price of gold is hanging around $1600, and have 3 claims I can still work, with access to several others.  At least will have time to start moving some dirt

   GH if you need help I will work for only what I find. I had a CDL and can probably figure out a piece of machinery or two.

Unfortunately it is shovel and sluice only.  Got a dredge but the season isn't open for awhile.  

To get the NOI and POO for any kind of equipment operation is expensive and time consuming, especially now.  Usually takes at least a year, now- is anybody's guess.  Believe me, I know..... I sit on a BLM advisory council.

Until I retired from policing a few years ago I was.  I worked through many gong shows that others didn't have to such as the SARS crisis(2003), the great eastern North America blackout (2003) and the eastern Canada and northeast U.S. ice storm (1998).

Yes my job is essential.Without trucks America stops.Been driving for 31 years but if this pendemic keeps going the trucks will stop.At my company we haul raw matirals to factories and mills.Some of our trucks haul grain to the mills but some of those mills are shutting down due to this virus.Lotof factories are closing and and unless if your hauling food to the stores.A lot of trucks are starting to sit waiting on loads.

I'm a DoD civilian employee, considered essential by uncle sam, and working from home the last 3 week with no clear indication of when it will end.  Kinda getting tired of being stuck at home so much, but very grateful that my job is not affected.  My heart goes out to all those not nearly as fortunate as I.
