Forum loading slowly?
Posted by stikpusher on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 10:55 AM

Is anybody else here having the Forum loading slowly? For the past week or so, every time that I come on here, there is an extended load time for the forum, and when I do anything beyond hitting the "back" button on my browser. Is it just me, or is anybody else having similar experiences lately?

Yea it's very slow. I've also gotten a 504 error message 4 times this morning (gateway timeout)

It's always a little 'gooey'...but it's been glacial just lately.

Waiting for a response is like telling time with a sun dial. It's been particularly bad for the last day or so.

Since it's not just me, I guess it's time to bring it to the attention of the powers that be for this place...

Same for me for the last few days.  Didn't we go through this before?  I think it was at least a year or so ago and there was a great p;riod when nothing was done.  The forum gods have to fix this soon.

Yeah, I normally comment on the work computer at lunch but couldn't even get on the site today. Yesterday I could post but it took over a minute to open a thread or post anything.

Plus the cell phone was really slow on access.

Could it have anything to do with all these ads I keep seeing on the pages?

Well, here it is, 6:05 in the morning and the sped has increased by a considerable margin.  It looks like someone was paying attention to the posts.

Me too, it's been bad.

As Tojo and Ikar just said above, it does seem better today.

It was hit and miss for me yesterday, but today its back to normal.  Probably maintenance activities on whatever node of the internet their server is on.

I have an email in with our online team about this. For my part, I haven't experienced a slow down when working remotely on the Forum. There have been a number of infrastructure hits around the country, and that could be part of it. I am not aware of us doing any internal maintenance, switches, or testing that may have affected performance, but as I said, I'm checking. It seems that many of you are seeing the speed improve again, so that's movement in the right direction. If I find out anything of consequence, I'll let you know.

Thanks,

TK

I thought it was my computer too.  Some other sites seem just as slow, but a virus check says everything okay.  Is some place flooding the 'net with super amount of traffic?

Yeah, I noticed it, too, since Monday morning, and wasn't sure if it was my machine.  It's a little better today, but still slower than usual.  Pages usually take a couple of seconds to load for me, whether saving replies or navigating, and it's taking about 10 seconds.  I run Chrome on a Win10 machine.

Thanks for looking into this Tim!

I've been getting a mixture of normal speed and sluggish today. Doesn't seem any rhyme or reason to it. Guess it could be internet infrastructure but I'd not been having the same performance hit to other sites.
