Mirage 5s were sold to Israel but the sale was blocked by the French.  The Kfir was an unauthorized derivative using a more powerful US engine.

Satch you have it! Mirage 5 is the aircraft. It was developed at the request of Israel from the Mirage III (Shahak in Israeli service)- more internal fuel, hardpoints, and simplified avionics for operations under Middle East weather conditions, no real need for all the radars. But the export was embargoed after the June 1967 war. Israel did get some, sources vary, they built their own from blueprints obtained by Mossad or the French clandestinely shipped crated new builds to Israel for final assembly there. In Israeli hands it became the Nesher and was very successful in the air to air and role in the Oct 73 war.  After 1967 many Arab Air forces also clamored to buy Mirages, one of which, Libya, bought the Mirage 5. When Israeli Intel learned the Libyans were deploying Mirages against them, the black and yellow recognition triangles were added to Israeli Mirages (Shahaks and Neshers). They would meet over the Sinai and Suez and the Israelis would claim at least four Libyan Mirages. They would be used as the basis for the Kfir, a souped up variant powered by the J-79. Many of the rest of Israel's Neshers would be sold to Argentina, where they were renamed Dagger and flew multiple strike missions against the British Naval Task Force during the Falklands war. They performed well, suffered serious losses, but also hit many ships. The main reason more were not sunk was due to bomb fusing.

The Mirage 5 has seen service through much of the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America.

Over to you Satch.

The question is a six degrees of Kevin Bacon type.  The two photos are connected with less than six steps.

that would be helpfull, although i came up with this

Ship

Steam (ships used steam engines first?)

Piston (steam power developed diesel power)

Flight (powered flight wouldnt have happened without the piston engine)

Airwar (Airial combat wouldnt have happened without powered flight)

My mind works in mysterious ways

The answer is personal not technical.  If I gave you the name of His Majesty's ship I'm afraid I would be giving away the answer.

Stick, you got the first degree correct.  It is the HMS Bounty.  It should be easy from there.  5 more steps to go.

Both were commanded by a captain.

Bligh had a Christian and Galland was a chistian.

Both Galland and Bligh were part of a mutiny.

Both fought in Spain

First of all, it's not Galland's aircraft.  Secondly it's a progression from the first image to the second.  Here is a link to help with the concept.

Stick got the first part right, it's the HMS Bounty

German Family is related to Willie Messerschmidt's Family

Willie Messerschmidt Designed the BF109

Just a stab, no clue if its even right

OK, I'll give another hint.  Where did the Bounty Mutineers settle?  What was the island name and whom was it named for?

Bounty to Pitcairn Island

Pitcairn Island to Staffelkapitän Douglas Pitcairn

And, finally, it was Douglas Pitcairn who encouraged Heinz Bar to become a fighter pilot.

You know what teachers say about Wikipedia!  You got the person correct.  The HMS Bounty mutineers settled on Pitcarin Is, named for a British Midshipman.  His descendant was Staffelkapitän Douglas Pitcairn, who as stated, encouraged Heinz to switch from bombers to fighters.  In order to bury this dead horse, I'll give you the final link, which is not found in Wiki, btw.

Staffelkapitän Douglas Pitcairn and his wing man, Heinz Bar, scored the first aerial victories for I/JG51 when they shot down a couple of French Hawks on 25 September 1939.  And thus we get to Bar's White 13.

Pitcarin has an interesting story in itself.  According to the book "Polesti," authored by Dugan & Stewart (Randon House-1962) p.88, "Pitcairn of Perthshire was descended from a Scottish Protestant clan which had emigrated to East Prussia in 1830 after religious quarrels with Catholic neighbors. One of his ancestors was the midshipman who first sighted Pitcairn Island, the haven of H.M.S. Bounty's mutineers. The German Pitcairn had grown up in Memel, joined the revived German air force in the early thirties, and was secretly trained as a fighter pilot in Gerstenberg's school in Lipetsk in the Soviet Union. He entered combat in 1936 with a Henkel 51 squadron flying for Franco and his first enemy aircraft destroyed was a U.S.-built Curtis, piloted by a French volunteer fo the Loyalists."

All yours Davros!

Coming up with a new question is always a struggle. At the moment; the only thing I can think of is, probably, an easy one.

The ability to maintaine sustained supersonic flight without using afterburners is known as Supercruise. Which aircraft was the first to achieve this?

You got it.

Interestingly; I found that Concorde had logged more hours in supercruise than all other aircraft put together.

Anyway, over to you.

Bonus points if you can tell me what sqn the helos belong to too (but thats not what this is about, its about the airfield)

The location looks to me like Ft Irwin Army Airfield, Ft Irwin CA. Which should theoretically make the Hueys belong to the OPFOR unit there. I don't know what Squadron, but last I knew they were part of the 11th ACR.
