Thank you. Ok. What European aircraft was one of the best of its kind for its intended role. Loved by its pilots but hated by its maintenance crews. Hints to follow if no one gets it.

Jet or prop driven?

Which European country-they got a Heinz 57 over there.

The reason I ask this is because this was typical of nearly all post-biplane non-radial-engine European aircraft engines give mechanics headaches, and probably still do.

I mean, we could have taken a poll on the last question, and, based on the rules, and TJ woulda been next. OK?

Is there going to be a constant complaint over the questions? If so, I'm outta here, I have better things to do.

Here is my point.

I can ask you-all which awsome American bomber, I actually saw doing not "loops", but "flips" over the Angelest-Crest Mountains north of L.A., when I was a kid. (Yes, I have the very available, basic plastic kit!), but would that be fair to you?

I could ask you how could an actual "Big" U.S.A.F. bomber do "flips", not long loops?

Can you answer that? I can.

A lot of us Americans forgot to go to a museum in London that incorporates a "Flying Bedspread", since we have a few of our own, that includes the Bell X-1.

yes I was thinking a European consortium... the Jaguar and Alfa jet were similar European consortium builds but designed originally as trainers, which are usually simpler aircraft. Since it appears a consortium is out, but it is a design from one of the three Panavia countries, how about the EE Lightning? A superb interceptor, but I have read it was something of a beast in maintenance due to its design configuration.

This aircraft was arguably the last of its type. But it was only a prototype and never bought nor developed into service production. Nor was that catagory type ever used by its home nation in combat. However other nations used aircraft of the catagory with varying degrees of success in combat.

I built a 1/48th scale model of one-I loved it's design configuration!

Less resistance to VTO+climb, using two engines vertically! Not just one big fat one.

Well Johnny, we're all on the same page, maybe different paragraphs, so just for the official record, would you tell us who won?

That sounds like the Northrop F-20 Tigershark. The category being the F-5E which flew in combat for other countries, but only as a dissimilar aircraft adversary for the US.

It is not the F-5/F-20. Those are both fighter planes. Of which the US has used numerous types in combat. The aircraft type I am asking about is far more niche specialized.

Lol! Soliciting eh? Ok, this catagory of aircraft was fairly common with some nations in both world wars. But fell out of use immediately after the second. This aircraft was a novel attempt to solve a problem by crossing the old and the new.

Convair F2Y Seadart?

You got it. The last seaplane/floatplane fighter. Due to early problems in carrier operations with jet fighters it was thought that aircraft with supersonic performance could not operate from the carriers of the time. So the design team at Convair came up with the Sea Dart. But the technology problems for supersonic carrier based fighters were overcome and the Sea Dart did not proceed beyond the prototype stage.

That was a great question...I saw a show on it 2-3 months ago. first was thinking Bi-plane.

Ok, here is my question....What lady was the first to circumnavigate the world in an aircraft? And name the aircraft.

She circumnavigated the world during the last good year of the first half of the 20th century....Too much?
