Well, over the week-end - it was a long one since I had the Friday and the Monday off!! - I decided to compile a list of all the models I own, I mean those still in the box or partly completed but shelved for a reason or another...

I came up with 261 kits. 53 of which have been started. I re-discovered stuff I did not know I had, saw stuff I don't really need and will probably get rid off, stuff that I do not want to get rid off but probably will never find the time/courage/reference to build...

Out of those 261 kits, 84 are easily accessible, possible future projects. Those are left 'close-by', in my hobby room, the others, because I lack the appropriate space, are boxed up and placed in the loft.

How do you fare? Do you know exactly what treasures you are hoarding up? Do you have a stack of models 'close by' that you feel will be your next projects (but end up 'displaced' by the latest releases and purchases) ? Many kits you started but abandonned ?

Well right now I have 16 kits in the model room...6 are "works in progress" very slow works...but something gets done to at least one of them daily....

I have 2 boxes with about 10kits each in them...
I have 4 kits ordered that are on the way...

and Im planning on going by 2 of the LHS's tomorrow after my Dr's Appt...so who knows what I will come home with!

I just finished my little inventory, on account of I'm moving soon, and found everything where I had left it. I feel proud of myself. I only have around 30 kits, and haven't bought a new one in around a month. Of course, no funds might have something to do with that....

The question begs to be asked...

When you have hundreds of kits, would you realize it if someone in your family took one and wrapped it up and gave it to you for Christmas?

Excel is a great program for keeping track of those things. My inventory is around nine pages now and has passed the 5G mark. Never let the wife see it!

hey demon, same thing here - just moved house so I was able to see what I had. Not too bad with 40-50 kits in two plastic crates. I did find that I had a Tamiya 20mm Flakvierling I don't even remember buying, as well as a couple of Tamiya/Dragon WW2 infantry sets!
Now with a larger work area I can have more than one or two projects on the go at a time, so hopefully I'll be able to make a dent in those kits before I buy any more Smile [:)]

Domi, do you mean you have 50+ that are work in progress? If so, wow!

Interesting note: If Chris doesn't want Diane to find out about his hidden kit, why post it on the forum? Seems kinda silly to me... but hey, that's Chris for ya!

David, that's a scary thought! But now that I've got my list, and that I'm the only one tall enough to reach the loft, I'm safe (well, I like to think so)..

U-96, no, that's 50 odd kits that I started and then gave up on... Some like the Aifix Devastator, have been waiting like that since 1991... On average I've gat about 10-15 'on the go', of which 2-3 are 'full timers' and the rest 'occasionals'.

hehe I think I'm too bloody-minded to give up on anything (or more likely, too mean!), but it did come close with the Airfix 1/72 Hunter FGA9. It seemed a very poor kit compared to most of the Academy and Hasegawa stuff I have, even if the overall shape is good.

Just last night I was admiring, oops, I mean organizing, my unbuilt models. I would guess I have about 100 kits of things that go fast on the ground and an equal number of things that go fast in the air. Add a couple of armor kits (I'm diversifying), a couple of ships, one dinosour, a visible woman (for my daughter), and a visible V-8 (for my other daughter), and the total just tops 200. I would guess I also have 30 or so "minor" kits - figures, support equipment, and the like. I have about 8 kits nearly finished, awaiting inspiration, four or five started but quit in disgust (either a major goof on my part or on the part of the manufacturer), and another 3 actively underway.

Yes, I would notice a rewrapped kit for Christmas. Oddly enough, when I went through my inventory last night, there were no surprises - I know every kit I have purchased. If only my memory were that good in other areas! Another observation - except for a few duplicates, almost every kit has has been unwrapped and inspected. I intend to build them all; I'm no collector.

I am just now restarting the hobby after a 4 year break. There have been some great releases in the past few years. I am still buying far faster than I am building, but I plan to have a very productive winter. So many models, so little time....

Went through my kits the other evening, and rediscovered an old Peerless Max 155mm towed howitzer. I've got to finish that thing!

I also realized I have several kits I'm never going to build and would like to sell, like a Tamiya late Tiger, DML Scud missile and launch vehicle, and a few others. How do I go about offering some items for sale on this forum, or am I allowed to do that? I really don't want to put anything on evil-bay....

I had been thinking the same, Gip... Maybe post a list of what's available and what you'd like in exchange.

70 some kits, 15+ started, three major projects. Yes I would notice if I got a recycled kit. I always take out the instructions and decals when I inspect the kit. These are then stored flat, sorted by subject and scale. The kits are packed up and stashed 75 miles away on the farm but the instructions and decals are on my desk. The instructions are in an expand a file and the decals are in a photo album for easy access and viewing. Plus the fact I write the date recieved and purchase or gift info on the inside of the lid or flap. Yeah I'd notice. Never a suprise, I have a master list.

Dave, my family did something like that to me one Christmas. They took three of my books, including one with my bookplate in the front, wrapped it and put them under the tree. They had a couple of other presents stashed in another room. They did it just to see the expression on my face when I realized that I'd gotten my own stuff back. 25 with one on the way in the mail. When this one arrives it will give me all 4 of the Trumpeter 1/350 WW2 carriers (Hornet, Essex, Yorktown & Franklin). Expensive, but worth it. I've started at least 10 of them.

I think I have the low score here. I have 1 kit sitting on the shelf , 1 being built and 1 being prepped to start on monday. And my wife complains that I buy to many kits, please let her read this thread.

I have 14 kits at various stages of completion, and one waiting to go on Monday. Sheesh, and my parents complain about the number of kits I have.

About a month ago I had nearly 360 unbuilt kits, 236 of which I recently bought from another collector. I have sold about 180 of them on ebay (I love ebay), maybe some of you guys were my buyers! I suppose when my "selling project" is done I will have 140 or so kits left for my personal collection.

Over the course of time my interests change and I decide to "trade" some kits for other kits. Ebay has really helped me learn about kits of all types, sell the ones I no longer want, and obtain my new interests. My buying goes in spurts; I'll buy a couple of kits per week for a while and then nothing for a few months.

Lizardquing2 you saved my honour by having a score lower than mine.

Though not by much.

5 kits.

1 complete

3 in the painting stage.

1 in the early stages of construction

I'm obviously not trying hard enough!

Does a model railway layout count as one kit, or whole lot?

If so my score just sky rocketed.

I am afraid to go and do an inventory. The last time I did one I found my neighbor that had been missing for two years. There he was, clutching a Battleaxe 1/48 scale F-84G in his hands. At least he died happy.Wink [;)]Tongue [:P]Laugh [(-D]
