But alas Dai, it's no longer as nice as it once was.
The scenery is still awesome to behold, and since the weather has become alot more humid, we have some pretty cool thunder storms, but the township has gone a little sour.
Nevermind, I just stay indoors and build stuff. Shy [8)]

How about an Aussi wannabe? I went on about 8 deployments into Darwin with VMGR-152 out of Futema Japan back in the 80's. God I love the country, the people and the outback! If I were ever widowed or divorced, I will pack up and move there.

hey boys - long time no speak (about 2-weeks, but it seemed like forever). My laptop packed it in, so got a new one. Couldn't use my work computer for the net cos I share a office (pretty hard to hide!). Wats the latest news?

Welcome back Luke, I was wondering where you had gone. Thought that I might have scared you off with the vice captain remark.

well, i just ordered a F111 in Australian markings, so i might just build that ... depends if i can pick up a Leopard 1A4 or not, also, i can't find a landrover, so that might prove to be difficult to build as well Tongue [:P]

G'day fellas, I now have my No.3 Squadron decals from Red Roo and am just waiting for my Tamiya P51 kit to arrive. In the meantime I have been gathering reference material. I found an out of print Osprey book called "P51from production line to front line", it has heaps of photos of Mustangs in various stages of construction in the factories as they were assembled, should come in handy. One of my favourite parts is gettin all the info together and learning about my new project. As Big Kev would say.... I'm excited!

Sgt. George Hale's MiG-Killer sounds like a great choice Luke. There was a Workbench Review on this kit in FSM Feb 2004 just in case you were'nt aware. The listed retail in that article was US$49.95.

For the other Aussie tread heads, ADF has announced that we are getting 59 M1A1 AIM Abrams by 2007 ...

... will look wierd seeing an Abram in Australian Camoflague. Its supposdly exactly the same except for a minor modification to allow the crew to drink cooled water, proberly not an external difference, also a camoflague system is going to be purchased ... possibly similiar to the leopard one in use atm ...

... i know what i will be modeling very soon Tongue [:P]

well, i think the camo system was purchased from sweden, or something like that... and the M1A1 is still in service today with the US forces and the M1A2 is still being introduced ... as far as i know ... M1A1's were used in the latest Iraq conflict ... i think the M1A1 variant was designed late 80's early 90's (correct me if i am wrong) which is much better then the leopard we have now

Okay guys I've gathered everything I need, kit, references, decals, I'm ready to go. Just got to finish my P47 first. Probably another week, then I want to do a small diorama base for it to finish off. Just got some good service from Squadron in the US. by the way. My order took about 3 weeks but they had everything I wanted in stock and the prices are real good at the moment with the US to Aussie dollar exchange rate. I bought a Tamiya kit, reference book, some resin bits and pieces and some Photo Etch and even with air freight included they well and truly beat the local prices. Sad but true. Locally I have had excellent service from Red Roo with decals and Aussie reference materials.

Great.Lets just hope we don't get attacked by anybody before 2007,when we get our brand new second hand reconditioned Abrams.I know , I'm a cynic.The cooled water modification sounds like a good idea though.Those eskies can take up a hell of a lot of space inside ,and if you left them strapped to the outside they might get damaged....

thing is, we can't transport them by air at the moment ...

... i got my F111 the other day, have to wait a while for paint, but chances are i'll also build the Leopard AS1 ... and even a "what if" scenerio for the Australian M1A1

Aleksander - i don't see why not ... unless the others have something to say about it ?

Hey Fellas,

Seems like the number of Aussie modellors is growing!

Been modeling for about 2 years, and live in Brisbane (now). I started in Townsville with the Townsville Scale Modelling Club........ a great bunch of blokes!!

I enjoy building aircraft, 1/48 scale mostly, cause 1/72 is just too fiddly! Although my latest project is a 1/72 Ventura based at Gove in 1943 ( I grew up in Gove) .

Oh by the way, I'm looking for a modelling club in the south of Brisabane....anyone know of one?

You have another AUSSIE using this site,Julian from Logan city QLD. logan city is inbetween Brisbane and the Gold coast. How about the summer just gone,it reached 43c here one day,anyway i mostly model 1/48 scale ww2 aircraft but tanks and ships are pretty cool to.Do you guys know where i can find some microbrushes in OZ.

Aleksander; Seeing that you have visited the right places and love our country and are building a Wirrawaya, you are adopted.

With the addition of Aleksander, Paul Mark, Nomis and J.S. Harrison we know have 21 modellers that have replied to this thread.

Are people still interested in the group build? I am will be looking for a model this weekend. I have draft copy prepared for the build, will place it on the board this weekend.

j.s. I searched hi and lo for microburshes over the last years and then when I was about to give up all hope I found some at a local hobby shop here in Adelaide. The contact details for the shop is Model World, 6 Twin Street, Adeliade SA 5000. Their phone Number is 08 8223 1642 - Fax 08 8223 1645, I believe they will mail order. The cost of the brushes were $5.50 for a packet of 25. Feel free to contact me if you require more info.

I am from Adelaide too, which is your favourite hobby store? I live on the east side where there appears to be a complete absence of hobby shops.

For some stupid reason I keep forgetting about this part of the forum.

It's nice to see people who can spell the word 'colour' correctly. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Anyways, I was wondering how many of you guys have airbrushes, and if so, what the hell do you use to minimise tip dry!!!

I just received my Omni 4000, and it is driving me nuts spraying a 30 mm line, then having to stop and clean the tip, then start, then stop, etc etc etc.

Others have gone on about Createx and Liquitex Retarders etc, but that stuff doesn't exist here, so short of using Olive Oil on the needle/nozzle to repel the paint, I'm stumped.

Someone PLEASE help.

Oh yeah, this group build that South Aussie is talking about, you can definately count me in, and I imagine the time frame will be enough so we can all order a bucket of detail bits etc from OS?? Mischief [:-,]

I have a Passche Single Action Airbrush, if it starts to build up i just open the needle a bit more and give it a quick spray on some waste paper or something, that usually gets rid of it for me ...

... maybe its not thinned enough ? i think thats my reason for it drying up on the needle

Matt; I live on the north side and have close access to two shops, 1 in Salisbury and Hobby Habbit on Main North road Blair Athol although I tend to go to Military Hobbies in Port Rd more often. Occassionally visit Adeliade Hobby centre in Rundle Mall.

Funny you should mention the FSM with the microbrushes, the day I picked that copy up I was in town and went to Adeliade Hobbies and asked if they could get mircobrushes, even showed them the free brushes that came with the mag, their reply was you find a supplier and we may order them, Banged Head [banghead]

real good customer service. Banged Head [banghead]

That same day I went to Model World and Big Smile [:D]

found them Big Smile [:D]

As much as I hate to say it (after all the negative comments flying around), I use an Aztek airbrush and once I adapted to it I don't seem to have the same problems as the rest. Once had a similar problem and used the same technique as ILuv3ggs to clear it.

p.s. I quite often drop the "U" in colour and armour in this Forum just to keep our American friends happy.

I use the same two shops! I just wish they were closer.....
I don't think too much of the service in the city either. They carry some stuff the others don't though.

By the way I am a bit of a neurotic when it comes to spelling, so I just can't drop 'u's under any circumstances! Big Smile [:D]
