What tunes do you listen to while modeling?

It all depends.  With 2 kids and a job where there is a lot of chatter and noise sometimes the sounds of modeling is all I want to hear.  Those sounds being:  sanding plastic with a sanding stick, the sound of the paint brush handle striking the inside of the brush cleaning solvent bottle, sprue nippers cutting parts from the parts trees and of course the coffee cup/beer mug being refilled.

If I am in a musical mood I usually listen to some jazz.  It's mellow sounds do get me too excited so I started head banging and breaking stuff.  haha

I prefer instrumental music, 'coz listening to words tends to distract me. However, the music of Libera is always calming and entertaing. As far as the instrumental music, I like mostly the sounds of the theatre pipe organ, also big band and some light jazz...

Mine is an inside until we go to the cottage, then she wants outside with us(she is fixed!!!).  She also alerted us to a redtail hawk that was on our shed.  see morning surprise thread.  Don't knock cats too much.  they are helpful.  mine is just smaller than the one i REALLY want!  I'll take a Black Panther Anyday!!!!

How do I answer this?I was born during the war.There is a lot.   Lets start with the whole soundtrack from the GODFATHER films, intersperse with GAELIC traditional,then slide over to PINK FLOYD, KISS, METALLICA and lets not forget KRAFTWERK.Then it,s an open list. Top Gun soundtrack. All ot of movie soundtracks ,You may not know these ,HENRY MANCINI,KENNY G ,TARA (GONE WITH THE WIND) and more soundtracks!! I definitely start my builds with the C.D. from X FILES.,CREDENCE CLEARWATER, WAR etc. I could go on with more like ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER, MONTOVANI , DICK DALE and the DELTONES, BEACH BOYS et al.I do like instrumentals more because I did at one play the PIANO,CORONET and  ALTO SAX as well as trying the DRUMS.With all that I still like LES PAUL and MARY FORD and any country guitar(MUSIC ONLY) For about twelve years I was able to get by as a halfway decent lounge singer until I screwed up my vocal chords. Music in my family was as important as breathing.Have you EVER known an Italian(EVEN AN ADOPTED ONE !) that didn,t like to sing even if they were tone deaf??? I have on the bench, right now Scads of 1/96 components for my client,and for myself I have the U.S.S. MONSEN 1/700 ,the U.S.S. GEARING 1/350 The S.M.S. KRONPRINZ 1/200and a MERCEDES 190,CHRYSLER 300 and a DODGE (little red truck) 1/25 .I need a lot of breaks from the clients work.Then I listen to ENYA and THE GAELIC WOMEN, or RIVERDANCE!!I also ingest about two twelve cup pots of coffee while working.There I,ve said it.! Mostly I listen to r&r, KISS, Linkin Park, OZZY, will throw in some "Wierd Al".  Mainly what is in the library of my computer.  Just set it to random playlist.

Music or talk radio is always on in the hanger.  I normally dial-up Yahoo music and set it on either the Progressive Rock or Fusion Jazz stations.  However, there are those days when the only thing that gets me going are "the pipes", as in bagpipes.  Scotland the Great.....nuff said.

I agree with the Neil Peart comments..best drummer I've ever seen or heard.

Saturday morning it's "Wheels with Ed Wallace".  His "Backside of American History" segment is outstanding.  

95% percent of the time I like to work in peace and quiet. But if I'm working on sanding a part or something that's just plain tedious, like trimming roadwheels off the sprue, I'll turn on some tunes.

For me my tastes range, I enjoy One Republic, Coldplay, Akon, Interpol, B.O.B.(especially the song Nothin' on You), and sometimes a little Taio Cruz.

Gotta be careful with Rush though, I keep thinking I'm Neil Peart & start drumming on things with my paintbrushes and exacto knives...

Oh good. i'm not the only one who thinks that the workbench also doubles as a drumset when Rush comes on. 

 

No, you're not the only one. It can get downright messy!

I listen to the same music when modelling as I would any other time.  Which is mostly punk with some industrial, metal and techno thrown in.

Ahh, that will turn into one of those infamous "were you there" posts! I was, we should all get a t-shirt!!

Country or Southern rock, or if its a late night I enjoy listening to Coast to Coast am with George Neery always has interesting topics like UFO's,Bigfoot etc....Last week I listened to a show about Shadow Goverments topics that make me go Hmmmmmm. Also tv if a Nascar race is on or old World War 2 movies made during the war I love how Patriotic those are.

I'm a semi professional Jazz saxophonist, so Jazz and Blues are always welcome listing for me.

However, I usually tie my listening choices to the era of subject I am modeling. Since much of that is WWII era, I often put on some 3rd Reich German Marches, Big Band or old time radio shows to get in the historic mood.

I'm and accuracy/authenticity freak, what can I say.

Since I had satellite installed to my workshop, I've largely just watched TV.  During the fall on Saturdays, or nowadays Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings, there is always a college football game on.  Doesn't have to be Texas A&M - I'll watch any Division 1 football game. 

Military channel, History channel.  Sometimes old re-runs of shows like Seinfeld, Everybody Loves Raymond, M*A*S*H.  FoxNews.  Or I put a movie into the DVD player, typically something action oriented or scifi.  Patton, Empire of the Sun, Enemy at the Gates, Star Wars, Indiana Jones ....

Prior to my satellite installation, I typically listened to movie scores by John Williams, James Horner, Jerry Goldsmith, or Hans Zimmer.  Or I would listen to sports talk radio or political talk radio.

metal, metal, heavy metal, more metal, and classical. Sometimes I'll throw a movie on the laptop for background noise, plus it's a really good way to keep track of time. You know,  when you have good session. You sit down, start workin', get up a bit later to use the facilities and find out you've been going full bore for 6 hours without even realizing it! An hour and half or a two hr. movie is great way to keep that in check, IMHO.

Talk radio, Fox News or Pandora set on Greatful Dead, Who, John Prine, Taj Mahal & Jerry Jeff Walker. Some Blues or Celtic is cool. Maybe a little Wagner or a little Tchaikovsky.  I'm all over the place.
