Only 5 builds for me this year.

Academy 1/35 Huey

Academy 1/48 Czech MiG 29

Italeri 1/48 Hawk T.1

Italeri Hawk Mk.66

Airfix 1/48 109

And I've gotten this far on a 1/48 Hasegawa Phantom.

Don't think I'll get the Phantom done by the end of the year.

Some great builds here, all! Think the end of the year is one of my favorites, forum-wise. Seeing all the year's builds, prospect of new GB's kicking off...

Had quite a few in the works, but this was the only one that made it to the completion stage - WnW's 1/32 Pfalz D.IIIa.

Vance, Bill, and JBrady: Great stuff guys! Thanks for the year end update I haven't seen most of these, wonder how I missed them???

Baron Von Richtofen: Wow, didn't know this was your first year. Fantastic progress you're making. Took me a lot longer to get to the point you're at now.

Vance: Yeah what Eric said. As much as Manny rides you that some seriously impressive work. Love the Hien and the Zero, the pilots really add a lot the planes.

It's been a strange year. I started building plastic kits for the first time in my life. Got some things done. Only hope each one was a bit better than the last.

I'll wrap up one more "Jug" before years end. Happy with the way some turned out not so much others. I said it was a strange year. Two months in the hospital after gettin ghit by a car and five surgeries later... hoping for a better 2012

I would count this as my "first" year in the hobby, I've only started developing skills since my discovery of this site while browsing the net.

Before this year I hand brushed my models and didn't even bother too paint the cockpits.

The first plane for the year were all - airfix 1:72: il-2 (hand painted) not too good, Albatros DVa (hand painted) better, Bristol fighter (hand painted) getting better, then my last WWI plane, Hannover CL.IIIa (hand painted) still, better than the previous model.

Then came my "discovery" of rattle cans. I partially spray painted and partially hand painted a Airfix 1:72 Yak-9D & P-39Q Airacobra. The P-39 came out best.

Julez72 kindly gave me his old Badger 175 Crescendo dual action A/B, mum & dad bought me a compressor, and then I build a Revell MiG-3. This was my first go at airbrushing, the whole belly was airbrushed as well as the white top. I also sprayed the green sections of the wings with a rattle can.

I then continued from then on too use A/B only. I discovered scratch building, copper brake lines, scratch built seatbelts etc. I did this for my Hawker hurricane, P-40b. Then I thought I would give pre-shading a try, so I pre-shaded my PE-2.

Then because of models covered with rivets I couldn't pre-shade, so then I made a Corair, (thankyou Gamera for the decals!) then I made a P-40N in 48 hours for the weekend madness GB. Scratch built and all that, I finished and it turned out to be possibly my best model yet.

And today, I just finished my Helldiver, I did so much scratch build it took me two weeks too complete, I also went for a open canopy position, for the first time.

I am now hosting my first Group Build, the Pearl Harbour 70th anniversary GB. Which I'll be building my first 1:48 scale model (Tamiya 1:48 A6M2 Zero). Which is also crossed over with the Japanese GB.

Today I bought 6 more models as well. Airfix 1:72 BV141, Airfix 1:72 JU88, Airfix 1:72 FW189, Airfix 1:72 AR196, Revell 1:72 FW190F-8 + BV246 Hagelkorn (together), Italeri 1:72 MC.202.

So this year I completed: Airfix 1:72 il-2, Airfix 1:72 Albatros DVa, Airfix 1:72 Bristol fighter, Airfix 1:72 Hannover CLiiia, Airfix 1:72 Yak-9D, Airfix 1:72 P-39Q, Revell 1:72  MiG-3, Airfix 1:72 Hawker Hurricane Mk.1, Academy 1:72 P-40b, Airfix 1:72 Corsair, Airfix 1:72 PE-2, Airfix 1:72 Helldiver.

Thankyou everyone for all the help, I greatly appreciated it!! Big Smile Yes

Thanks Cliff. That's the squiggly pattern that I saw for Normandy. It was very tough to spray, but turned out okay.

Eric: Nice heavy metal there, great to see how much stuff you've gotten done with all your work problems and all. Love the crazy camo on the Panzer IV.

Beautiful work here everyone. I know it has been a very numericly productive year for me as well. But seeing how I have at least three builds that can be completed before the year is over in the next 9 days I will hold off posting my finished build pics until that mark has passed.

DoogsATX

I was a big Rick Mears fan as a kid - but then I grew up in the 80s when it was him, AJ Foyt, Bobby Rahal, Al Unser, Jr and the like battling it out at the Brickyard. Loved the obnoxious yellow Pennzoil car.

I went to the "Scheaffer 500" up at the Pocono International Raceway for many years in the mid-70's and early 80's, and I remember all those names. Mom couldn't stand the hothead AJ Foyt! Dad liked Mario Andretti.

What I remember most about those days was the cool variety of the cars--not like today where they all look so homogenized! There seemed to be quite a bunch of cool-looking and different models--remember the "Norton Spirit", the "Foyt Coyote" and the "Olsenite Eagle"? I've got the 1st and 3rd of those in the stash..
