Hi,

A few of the "major" hobbies in no particular order ... hard to say which is #1 as it varies per mood or phase...

Guns (building/shooting/collecting)

Motocross, BMX and Mountain biking

Photography

Modeling

Collecting guitars/basses (mostly Fender Strats)

My wiffe says I'm high maintenance = spends too much money on stuff. Wink

At the moment, other than school and work, yes it is my number one for sure. the last few years though, from mid-july to the end of october, my main hobby was up-downs, weight-lifting, sprints, and tackling drills. The only thing i could build during football season was muscle, layers of bruises, and adding to my sack total.....and now i gotta do it again to see if i can get a college scholarship lol. There is only one thing that relieves more stress for me than model building: A blindside hit to an unsuspecting quarterback lol. Football really taught me a lesson that applies to modeling as well though: lots of hard work gives you a great result in the end!

Are these hobbies?     Propeller

I started out wanting to do an HO RR, modeling the fallen flag, AC&Y RR that ran behind my home in Akron, OH.

But then I decided I liked to make models as much/more than RR soooooo.........     Whistling

Still think I like both, but have a stern wheeler on the shelf that is beckoning.  Yes

Cheers, Jake

Hard to say. I think my number one hobby is Pencak Silat, an indonesian martial art. I have been doing that for 24 years (and I am 33 years old ...)

But modelling is deftintly my other passion.

I do have other hobbies, like reading, running, games, cycling (nothing fancy like those pictures here, just a 15 year old Panasonic bike) but Pencak and modeling are my favorites.

It should be my number 1 with all the modelling stuff I buy and have around.  But it's not.

1 is probably sitting at the computer doing nothing.  Though sometimes this nothing includes watching shows or playing warcraft)

2 is getting into trouble and going to places I shouldn't here in Japan.  Though I need to quit this one, it costs too much...

3 would be modeling!

I like beer, too, but that's more of a way of life than a hobby.  I have over 200 beer mugs, steins and glasses, all German, plus some additional, related items (beer trays, for example, lights, ash trays).

That is a lots of beer mugs. If you need help filling 'em up and emptying 'em, just drop me a PM. A PM, not a public post, I don't want everybody and his dog from this forum to show up...SmileBeerSmileBeerToast

As my picture shows, that was my #1 hobby. A close second is scale modeling. Third is computers. Anything to keep my mind and hands active.

I would have to say computer games, especially old ones.

Drawing probably ranks up there to. : )

I also am a cyclist, for 40 years now. I started modelling before that but stopped for a long time and then got serious about 15 years ago. They are probably 1 and 1a. My new hobby is my 7 month old grandson.

 Manstein's revenge:

Hmmmmmmm...there seems to be a correlation between modeling and cycling....Maybe an idea for a totally new mag?  But what to call it?

Looking for a totally new spin, or a more circular approach?

I dunno---just need to shift gears, I think...

FWIW.............I also ride a bike - but not as a hobby.

Traffic congestion is now so bad in my area that a bike is actually faster than driving a car for local errands.

Theater!! There's one I don't think anyone has mentioned yet! I did that and Band in High School. No time for modeling with all of that, though. I haven't done either one since school, but I would really like to if I can ever settle down for a while.

Tough to say...I'm a cyclist, too, but I find time for both, more or less equally.

Third place is membership in a non-professional, volunteer theater.  I've been on stage, which I can take or leave, but I spend more time doing technical work.  Sometimes commitments there conflict with both scale modeling/toy soldiers and cycling (like missing Mosquitocon last Saturday, because it was tech weekend for a show that opens this Friday).

I like beer, too, but that's more of a way of life than a hobby.  I have over 200 beer mugs, steins and glasses, all German, plus some additional, related items (beer trays, for example, lights, ash trays).

#1 for sure

Interesting others mentioned activities that classify more as a sport than a hobby.

I had to put a lot of interests and activities on the back burner when lill' Joe was born. I hope to return to my favorite sports, teaching him along the way. 'Full Circle' if you will.

Stuff that will always keep my interest and I hope to do for life:

Fishing, hiking, mountain biking, wake boarding, ski-doing,surfing (ok I need to actually do it next time instead of eating wake)

Lill' Joe also will (hopefully) take interest in my childhood favorites:

Lego, model RR (HO) & model building. Still have everything in excellent condition.

My significant others oldest turns 20 in May. Once again I will treat him to paintball humble pie, a decade of tournaments in the 90's gives me the edge. His semi-auto does not match a skilled player with a pump action gun.

Here is Lill' Joe (7 weeks old) & I at Sun Peeks Resort, Kamloops BC. last August. Bike is a 03' Sanna Cruz Bullet (Silver Bullet) w/ Monster front forks. Old school, suffers brake jack yet it suits me fine.

This is my #1 hobby.

Second: Leatherwork.    Something I got into in my early teens. 'Tandy Leather' is the place for this. I have a rather extensive set of leather stamps, tools, stains and paint for that. I've made wallets, belts, checkbook covers, rifle slings, a few purses, cell phone cases. I have a stash of kits for this hobby too! A few holsters, cartridge cases, drink holders, etc. I discovered using my airbrush for this. No mixing or thinning required! The results last forever. Far better quality than what you could buy buy at a store. The wallet I use was made over 10 years ago and it still looks almost new. You get to pick your own pattern, color schemes, etc. I should make a luftwaffe wallet, complete with a yellow outline and mottling. Actually, that might be pretty cool!

Third: Woodwork:   Not done too much. I don't have the lathes, routers, table saw, bandsaws, etc. I get pre-fab kits from a place called american unfinished furtniture. It's cheating, I know. Same thing as leatherwork though. It's 'real' wood (birch or alder). Not compressed particleboard stuff that most furniture stores carry anymore. The kits only need light sanding. Then, I stain, clear coat and assemble. Lot's of colors and shades to choose from. I made a few bookcases, my entertainment set and a few other things. I have plans to make a 12 shelf, 8 foot high display case/book case to display my models.

Other than that. Fishing, Hunting (duck and deer) mostly in North Carolina, bike, hiking, and camping sporadically.
