As someone who works in a hobby store and as a plastic modeler.....we DO feel your pain.  A lot of times we are at the mercy of our distributors who don't ship our orders completely.  And, not to spread any conspiracy theories (maybe), but bigger accounts more than likely get bigger fills on their orders.  In an IDEAL world I would do everything possible to keep every single color of the brands of paint in-stock everyday, and I believe most responsible, customer-friendly hobby store owners, managers, and employees try to do this.  Heck, in this ideal world I'm building in my head :) I would carry every line of paint and even despite recalls due to "labeling" issues keep every color in-stock....even that ever-favorite, Recon Blue for the Farely Fruitbat Mk. XXX(R)....  But in the "real" world I do have to deal with "relabeling" issues, distributor out-of-stocks, and (would you believe it?) theft....most of us in the trade are really trying to do the best we can for our customers, which includes me.  BTW, does anyone reccomend a color for the Fruitbat's wheel wells???

Don't know about SB and MO, but I live in Texas, and Squadron charges me sales tax.

That's why I avoid Squadron when I can.

Excuse me.. Is that an Uzi?

 Rob Gronovius:

Once upon a time, paint selection was limited and modelers needed to mix various colors to get the shade or hue they needed. Tamiya still provides mixing ratios albeit specifically for their own line of paints in their instructions.

Maybe paint mixing is a lost art, but I wouldn't let the lack of a certain color stop me from building a kit. I'd use trial and error and mix up a close approximation.

I couldn't agree more! I mix probably 70% of my own colors for any given "correct" color.

I've been doing this for a while. Not too long ago, Michaels had their craft paints on sale for .25 each. I bought a ton of them and mix colors I don't have.

That's a fault of the state and not of the company. I doubt they charge Texas state sales tax because they want to.

I don't really care whose fault it is. If I can save 8.25% by buying from Sprue Brothers I do.
