Well as new member (relatively) i tried to start a GB in Armor co hosted with a higher post count member than I as too help me (a newbie.) But i tend to notice on here the well respected posters with high counts and great builders dont look or comment or help. HOw are we newbies gonna know that we suck at hosting without help from you guys. Dont hesitate to comment to them to help us gain experience so we cann all learn and make it more enjoyable. It also sucks when i work hard as everyone does and no one even looks at my stuff cuz i have a low count or something its very discouraging. It just sorry ucks when I go to build something and post it and not a person looks and when i start a GB no one says anything to improve or adjust it, i'm just shy and dont talk alot on here but when i do i want the same treatment as eveyone else.

sorry for the rant

Regardless of your low post count and "newbie" status---if you have skills and show them in here you will get noticed and quickly "accepted".  Period.

It also would help if you posted an avatar so that your posts will be recognized more quickly, and it will also add some "personality" to your persona...I rarely look at screen names anymore; I recognize the old hacks from their avatars...

I agree with MR, many a new member (I call them drive-by posters) joins the site, starts a GB within days of joining and disappears, never to be seen again. Auto-fail mode activated.

I also tend to be very cynical. Most of the time when I see person starting a GB, you'd have to be blind not to read between the lines; They are basically saying, "Hey, I just bought this hot, new kit and am really excited about it. I'm starting a GB with a theme that includes my new kit. It starts yesterday and ends in a few months when I think I can finish my new kit!"

We all know you're going to start that kit whether there's a GB going or not and just want some virtual slap on the back (GB badge) for doing so. You're better off doing a WIP thread so folks can see your work in one thread and not have it buried between the genre forum and the GB forum.

The best GBs are those with a strong leader and with a good theme. Sometimes the theme can be wide (i.e. "Things that Float") and still be good other times they can be so wide that there isn't any real cohesion between entries.

These are just my personal opinions. I've been here for a little while, almost 10 years now, and I've seen a few members come and go since then.

The only one you made mad was yourself. Summer is traditionally a slow modeling season with many folks taking advantage of the nice weather to do outdoor activities. Fall and winter are more akin to modeling because you're indoors more often than not.

Secondly, just because folks didn't respond in a timely manner does not mean they are not interested. Many wait until the idea has more followers and is fleshed out with more details before jumping in.

Additionally, they may be other GBs going on at the same time so you may be trying to get folks who might have joined but are otherwise engaged in similar GBs already.

Besides, you went from GB feeler to throwing in the towel in two days. Guys who were fishing, grilling and going to high school graduations this past weekend probably never got a chance to join.

Don't get discouraged.

One of the most common errors IMO is starting a feeler or just starting a GB in the Group Build Forum. That's why I said earlier that you need to go directly to the forums that apply: Armor, A/C, Ships, etc and post your ideas. Many people only go to the GB forum when they are actually involved in one.

I'm "following" this discussion only because I'm subscribed from commenting, but can I just say, let's NOT let this thread get personal and off-topic? I think everything that's been said has been said.It seems unnecessary to really flog this post.

Scratchbuilder, don't get discouraged. Why don't you post one of your models in question here in this post? I promise that I"ll give you an honest appraisal of it.

I'll watch for it.Smile

Patience is key,,, sharing your builds helps us to see your work and build a rapor with your fellow modelers,, also remember, even if you don't get any comments, or not as many as u would like, check the VIEWS which appears by ur Title of your WIP in it's respective section, Armor, Ships, GB's.. The views are tallied anytime someone looks at your WIP.. sometimes people are in a hurry, and won't comment, but they'll breeze thru looking.. or lurking...
