Larget for me is Revell's 1/72 Gato.

Most expensive is a resin 1/48 kit of the B-Wing figher from Star Wars for $225.00

Right now it's a 1/48 Ju-88 A-4 which is going to be built as a D because the markings it came with are for a long range recon version based in Norway.

Considering that I'm finding myself wanting to build medium WWII era bombers, I'm hoping to have some bigger ones soon. Also would love to build the 1/350 UUS Enterprise (carrier, not TOS). I've wanted that model for years. I just don't have room to build it let alone display it when it's done.

The two most expensive kits I've got are two Fernando Pinto resin 1/24 race cars.  I believe that each worked out to about $190 shipped from Portugal.

A pal o' mine bought me a gigantic C-57D starship model from Forbidden Planet a couple of years ago, The box alone is so big I had trouble finding a place for it. Comes with the entire crew as well as the Monster from the Id, which is molded from clear plastic and would be fun to light from underneath. That's if I ever get around to building the monstrosity, which is so daunting I tremble at the very thought. I got him back, though, by getting him a 1/350 TOS Enterprise last Xmas. Serves him right. :-)

one model fits both! Scale Shipyards 1/48 Balao class sub - 96" long, $56/ft

its partially done. Ive stalled at building the deck for it.

In the pattern: Scale Shipyard's 1/48 Balao Class Sub! leaning out the list...NOT! Ha, added to it again - Viper MkVii, 1/32 THUD & F-15J plus a weekend madness build!

Hmmm, I don't know whether I'm lucky or not Steve, the thing is huge and I don't know where to put it. This thing could displace several 1/48 aircraft! Yikes!

PS--I think that's why he gave it to me.

Here's my entry, how about a large 1/12 Testors Lamborghini Countach LP 500S. I inherited this from a friend who bought it (expensive!) and stored it for years. He was cleaning out the closet and just gave to to me. Looks interesting and complicated.!

My largest and most expensive kit is now this-

Mike Salzo 37.5 inch resin Battlestar Galactica model. Over 3 feet long, nearly two feet wide, tips the scales at just over 19 pounds, With the ammount of detail on this it was worth the five bills.

My largest is the Revell 1/72 type IX U-boat. With all the associated PE it's also the spendeist.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Since I completed my 1/72 scale Dora rail gun a few years back, my largest and most expensive kit is either my 1/72 scale Trumpeter Tu-160 Blackjack or my Budweiser Beer Wagon with Clydesdales.

The most expensive one I have is the 1/35 Hobby Boss SS-23 Spider.

The biggest has is either the 1/35 Dragon Scud kit or the 1/35 Academy UH-60 Blackhawk.  I thought about motorizing the rotor on the Blackhawk; but I can just see it sitting on a table at a model show and some little kid sticking his fingers in it...blades going everywhere taking out other models nearby.  Boo Hoo

On the bench:  AFV Club M730A1 Chaparral

On deck:  Tamiya Marder 1A2

In the hole:  Who knows what's next!

The biggest kit for me has been Revell's 1/72 Gato submarine. My smallest has been Trumpeter's 1/350 SS John W. Brown Liberty Ship, which my eyesight was really challenged! My current build, 1/96 USS Constitution, will probably be my most expensive build since I have already purchased upgrades such as eyelets, barrels, better quality threading, wooden deck and I'm sure there will be other items!

Largest right now is my Anigrand Star Destroyer at 28 inches and $298. Soon it will be surpassed by my Christmas present to myself, the Salzo TOS Battlestar Galactica at 37.5 inches long and almost twice the cost of the SD.

I am happy with it, it is a huge set. I had bought the Italeri 1/35 Schnell boat earlier, and the matching Big ED  kit for it, and was pining for the Vosper to match with that. No sooner got the Vosper, and saw rumors of the Griffon set for it, and it moved to the top of the must have list for me.

The whole kit comes in in a box about the size of a vhs tape, and weighs about a pound or so, there must be about 2 dozen separate frets, with extra wire, rod, and resin parts (honestly I opened the pack when it arrived and though "oh crap, what have I done now") at 170 dollars it was not cheap. But with this and the Schnell I plan to take my time with and do the best I can on them. So they will be put aside while I re-hone my modeling skills on less expensive kits first.

So is it worth it, for me yes. For someone else, they would probably be more inclined to add to their regular stash or tool collection, but  over the years I amassed a great selection of tools and I have a healthy stash already of about 40 kits. But I splurged on the Schnell and Vosper, as those have that "show stopper" appeal to me.

i have the VOSPER started. not doing pe though the aa position certainly would benefit. i have seen the lionroar pe set and it is impressive. going to do a 3 color camo i think, because i can.pale green light gray and black with dark gray decks and tops.
