Three Scales for the Elven-kings under the sky, Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone, Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die, One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie. Is this where you say:  "Go not to the E.L.V.E.S. (Extra Large Very Egocentric Society) of modelling for advice, for they will tell you your tiny scales lack detail and are thrown together like children's toys"?  

(And let it be known that I have no particular favorite scale, though I find larger scales easier to wrap my big, clumsy fingers around.)
