Submarine Warfare GB August 2016.
Posted by modelcrazy on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 12:48 PM

I have several Submarines that I am jonesing to build, and I will in a month or 3 regardless, but I was wondering if anybody was thinking about a sub GB.
I know what your thinking. Why don't you start one yourself? Well I am running 3 until mid year and Co-hosting 2 so I'm a wee bit busy for a little while.....unless it starts late 2016.

I have minimal interest. A sub is something I probably wouldn't build on my own but may tackle as part of a group build.

How 'bout you ask around about a Waffentrager group build instead? Big Smile I have zero experience hosting group builds and I am probably too busy anyway, but a lot of people sound interested in Waffentragers.

Steve, I am not planning on hosting any more GB's as I am now limiting myself to one, or at a stretch 2 at a time. But if one was run towards the latter part of next year I would be interested.

Hokey
I do build subs

I can tell by your avatar.
It's pretty simple. You put out a feeler, kinda like I'm doing, but in the Ship forum as well, lay out the rules and time frame. Mid to later next year would probably be best because of the number of GB's now, which I am to blame as well, but it's up to the host. For rules you look at other GB's and copy or reject some of the rule examples.
*Most important* be attentive to your signees. Don't let them post and hear crickets for the next few days. We all get busy but don't make a habit of it. Members join to build, socialize, showoff their work and expect feedback on that work. Also, as the host you would be expected to help out finding a answer to a question, which means research...and time.
Sometimes a host will recruit a co-host to help take the load.

That's about it.

PJ, it may be you Hokey and I, but that's ok. I'll check again maybe mid 16 after my 3 have completed. Bish said he may be interested, so that would make 4.

Steve, just a thought which might attract more interest. How about a Submarine warfare GB. This could attract Sub hunters as well, including ships and aircraft.

Steve

I would also do some fishing over in the ships and GB sections to get more views and hopefully increase participation. There are plenty of subjects to deal with so lots of possibilities to deal with.

I have 3 U-Boats in the stash. Bit I am not ready to build either of the 72nd kits, but would like to build the 125th kit I have to practice painting and weathering a U-Boat. I also have an Fw 200 in the stash and might have one or two other aircraft that would suit the bill.

I have the 1/72 type VIIC and a 1/144 type VIIC. The later I wanted to make into a diorama.
I also have a Russian Alpha, and an American fast attack and boomer. I've also asked for a sub for the Secret Santa GB, so we'll see what I get for that. As for as planes... maybe a Rufe, but nothing dedicated to sub hunting.

Actually, would an Fw 200 count. It wasn't used for Sub Hunting, but was used to help guide U-Boats onto the convoy's.

Steve

The Revell 1/72 and 1/144 U Boats are fantastic. I have built several 1/72 Type VII/C's on comissions when they first came out. Unfortunately I didn't keep one but built the 1/144 Type VII/C which is a little brother of the 1/72 scale and is currently in my display case.

In my stash right now I have the both of new 1/72 Revell Type IX/C and the 1/144 Type II/B which looks very nice too. I also wanna get the Trumpeter 1/144 Gato 1944 configuration.

Bish,

I don't see why it wouldn't. It was used in conjunction with subs.

PJ,

I would love the get the 1/72 Gato, or is it the Balo, or both? Either way, an American ww2 sub as well as a Japanese.

Excellent, the more options the better.

That GATO is HUUUUUUGE. On the day i got my 72nd Type VII, somone posted a pic of their Type VII next to there GATO, both 72nd. If i had not had the VII next to me at the time, i would have thoguht what i was looking at was a small U-Boat. But i knew how big the VII was and the GATO dwarfed it.

Can you still get the 1/72 Gato?

Yes the 1/72 Gato is GARGANTUAN! That thing is cloe to 4 feet in lenght! I'm fine with the 1/144 scale which is still a large sub.

They pop up now and then on ebay but I'm sure Revell will re issued them again. I read somewhere that the 1/72 Type VII/C is going to get re issued.

Steve and Hockey

Just found out the 1/72 Gato will be re issued thru ROG and Freetime Hobbies is taking pre orders listing it at $99. This is a beautiful kit but a bit large so I will stay at 1/144.

That is the same Trumpy Gato I wanted to buy. The guy had 2 of them for $20 each and $8 shipping. One heck of a price! I went to the dinner table and hurried back to click on the "buy it now" button but it was gone!!!Crying :doh:

Yep, it would be for anything sub related from the civil war to modern including sub hunting helos.

It won't start until late next year.  Probably August or September.
