Because it's so satisfying sniping someone on an eBay item. Lol I never use those paid snipers that I've heard of. No fun in that. Going back to the question, I've acquired most of kits from eBay and other sites, because they are more affordable. I do realize my tastes are too fickle and I but too much on impulse. I thought that I wanted all the newer updated kits, but see myself gravitating towards Tamiyas newer kits due to simplicity and fewer parts. I can't finish these over-engineered kits with interiors and the such.

Figured I'd build them at an increased rate after retirement, which was correct. Failed to realize back then, that after retirement the sand in the hourglass would have already been flowing for six decades. Long ago reached the realization that I won't have the time to finish even the majority.
But neighbor kids and friends grandkids love getting some as presents for B-days and Christmas, so still it was a good investment for me. Pure enjoyment when they bring one by to show me their work, I find as much pleasure seeing it finished, as they get for having built it.

Because like a squirrel storing up nuts for the winter, I want something to build after I retire and don't have any money to buy new kits.
I have enough to last probably 3 years if I don't buy anything else. I better get shopping.
Plus like Bish said, to have a good selection for my next build.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

I couldn't say why you or anyone else does it,because I myself don't have that issue.

The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen.
All of the above, plus its nice to have a good selection to chose from for your next build.

LOL! I ask myself the same question evertime I leave a model show with 20-40 kits...or UPS backs up to my house and unloads 16 medium and large boxes (I was privy to an enormous estate sale in Ohio)..don't ask. :)
But I think I can go with your explanation. Yeah, that sounds good! ;)

Hello!
That, plus the thought: If I don't get it now, it's going to be hard to get and ridiculously expensive later!
Good luck with your modelling projects and have a nice day

After thinking about this for a while, I've finally decided that it's because I enjoy the "potential" and anticipation that opening a new box gives me. What about everyone else?
