Modeling and cats

Can't say I have many issues.  The odd hair floating around the spray bay etc.  However, I do enjoy getting a whisker in the water dish now and again.  Great for painting with!

Ha.  A guy in a local club used to use the cat whiskers for amor whip antennas.

Cats are just unique as people. Mine has an obsession with rainwater. After every rain, she has to go around her outside domain and sample all of the various lowspots that rain has accumulated. Dented trashcan lids, on bags of mulch, puddles on the ground, you name it. She does this every time she goes outside, just a few laps from each one.

I don't have any issues with her and my modeling. She made one run over my modeling bench when she was a kitten. You know those crazy running fits cats have sometimes. She hasn't been on it since, and now she's 18 years old. Overall, she's been a great little companion over the years.

This is her a couple of years ago during one of our "nature walks" around the back yard..

I get the occasional hair stuck to my clear coat but that’s about it. If she’s bored, she’ll sit down on my cutting mat and demand attention. 

My cat disrupts me by jumping onto my bench now and then. Cat hair is also an issue but what are you going to do? I made her a spot to lie down on next to my bench at the same height and am diligent about looking for hairs before and after glueing and painting. I have used her whiskers for cigarettes on a couple of 1/35 figures. I save them when I find them on the floor. And she ate a palm tree Once

 

I've only owned a cat (now two) for a little over two years, but cats that otherwise ignore me gain a level of interest in any model project I begin.

 My cat is totally weird . She will wait till I have the box open and the sprues laid out in front of me . Then , she steps in the box and lays down and goes into " cat relax " mode with one eye on what I am doing .

 She really gets frustrated when the box is to small for her .Then she will bat it on the floor and lay in that spot .!

 You know folks . You must remember , You don't own a cat .You are their Human by their choice . Cats have a certain mystique that even the EYGPTIANS figured out . That's why a cat was one of their primary Gods .

As a kid, we had a cat. It was a nearly everyday thing, to have to pick my models up off the floor and repair what I could. Years later, after getting back into building...my wife (g/f at the time) brought home a cat. It was nearly an everyday thing, to have to pick my models up off the floor and repair what I could. Years later, my FiL brought over a cat, for my daughter. I had a separate room (closed in back porch) for all my builds. I swear, that little , would wait until just the right momment, when the dog had to go out...she'd slip through the doorway and go ape on the lower shelves. Haven't had a cat in over 15 years now...also haven't had to pick up and repair anything in over 15 years...coincidence???...I think not!

Amazing...2x 75-80lb dogs, in 15years,  didn't do a fraction of the damage that a 5lb cat did in a single month.

Well, speaking of...

stik's cat did a number on his builds awhile back. I could have cried when I saw the carnage ... er.. damage. Cats are evil. Yes I own a cat myself as well.

Yea, I have 16 of em. I have posted about their "Activity's"  in several recent thread's, so I wont post a bunch of picture's here.

The one's that ARE allowed in my shop, usually dont go in there. The one's that ARE NOT allowed always find a way in..... no matter what I "throw" at them !

( Why do they always carry off part's "Triumphantly", ... like they killed it themself's ? )

I have two cats.  Neither one of them really bother any of my models.  They aren't allowed in my bedroom where my bench is.  They do sneak in every once in a while when my daughter comes in to talk to me and doesn't close the door all the way.  They don't get up on my bench at all.  My calico Sadie is just happy to lay on the floor, or underneath my stool while I work.  I usually just shoo her out anyway.  Hubby doesn't want the cat hair in bed. 

I worry more about my dopey golden retriever Kraven.  He's at least 60lbs, maybe more, but thinks he's still a little puppy.  His tail is lethal!

Calico's are the best! 

I used to have 4 cats then 3 then 2. None of them bothered anything in the "hobby" room but I put up a refurbished screen door on the room anyway. The cats would sit in the hallway staring in at me and listening to the music (classical). When the CD ended, they walked away. When I put a new one on, they came back. Sadly, they are both now waiting for me on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. They left behind a lifetime supply of whiskers.

Now we have a dog (rescue). We also have moved and my "hobby room" is in the loft. There is no door to the loft and Daisy comes up, sniffs around, but doesn't touch anything. We can go out shopping or visiting and leave her alone in the house. She hasn't touched anything. She is a terrific dog and we are very happy to have her. We've been here since early November and everyone in the community knows Daisy and likes her.

My cats drive me nuts!  fortunately they are outside/barn cats that live in the garage.  Don't get me wrong since we got them we don't have a rodent problem like we used to.   But they walk on everything!!!!   I really really hate muddy kitty prints on my car.  So much so that my wife gave me a car cover for my car this last Christmas.

Their favorite thing to do is wait for a car to come home then they jump on the hood to warm their muddy paws!  Arg!!They've gotten a lot of snow balls fired at them this winter.   I couldn't imagin the amount of damage they would do to my work bench concidering the amount of stuff they knock off the shelf in the garage. There's my rant for the week. 

I do admit I have an old Tamiya T-55 box top that I put on the table so they will sit in it instead of the box with my kit parts. This isn't always the case. They enjoy walking off with the sanding sticks.

Got two that come in to say "Hi" once in awhile, but since I got back into the hobby, they could care less, but don't have a dedicated bench at home for them to get into.  Just use a lap desk when working there.

That is most definetly NOT a Cat.   I believe it's actually a Chinchila.... ???

Wow, your cat looks just like mine that died a few months ago. She was pretty good about models, but if anything was right near the edge of a table she would stretch up and try and bat it off. Miss her.

Didn't quote right. Was refering to Mopar Madness'es cat.

Had a cat epsiode last night.  She broke into the basement and snagged the lower foryard on my Constitution and did a couple of hours worth of damage.  She never goes around my bench, except Cave Cricket season has started and I think she was chasing one across my bench.

I burried mine 4.5 years ago. Saddest day ever. I was blessed with 15.5 years with him. (also a black lab). We had a Golden Retriever, "Dug", for just a couple months shy of 15 years. We just said goodbye to him 2 weeks ago.

I don't know that I can put myself through such things again.

. I am in the same boat. Buried mine recently. Not ready for another.

 I know what your saying you get real attached to them my lab is 12 yrs old and just about everywhere I go she goes. The best friend I've ever had

But models are fragile things. Some of mine have fallen victim to dog tails, toddlers, barracks room mates,  earthquakes, curtains and blinds blowing in the wind... 

Prior to my last cat model bad day, the last one was 20+ years ago when a then kitten we owned used a helicopter rotor blade as a teething item. Thankfully I was able to fix or at least conceal most of the damage...

I've seen a couple cat and modeling issue posts here and there.   My cat does very little damage but every time I open a kit to look through the instructions/sprues she is right in the middle of it.  She has a plastic bag licking additction.
