GAF Gamera> The Buran looks cool. Interesting scale. John> That does look like a Revell CM / LM combo (1/96 scale). The slot in the side is for the stand. http://i45.servimg.com/u/f45/11/25/57/94/dsc_0610.jpg Not sure I have decals for it, but I certainly have parts if you're missing anything (such as a broken LM leg.) I found my entry, now if I could just figure out who's kit it is. It looks like a Revell kit, I assume 1/72. all the parts were thrown in box from a raffle win of the Revell Apollo/Soyuz kit. the Command module parts look identical except for the 4 dish antenna.
Lot of paint striping and filling and sanding to make it look good again.
modelcrazy That thing looks like it came half built already LOL.

Well, like the US shuttle the boosters, external tank, and most of the shuttle is white with black undersides with the heat resistant tiles. The company engineered the kit with the two parts of the shuttle falling along the colour demarcation line- so you could build a pretty decent model without using any paint. I don't say much nice about Soviet era engineering but in this case - nice work!

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

GameraThanks Gary, hopefully I should be okay. It's a very small model.

Scale 1/288th
Brand: STC Start I think- the rest is in cyrillic and I can't read it...
Gamera> Any place is fine. The official thread hasn't been started yet. I figure in a week we'll get the Official GB on the pad, and everyone can post there.
That Buran would be an interesting build! Hope you can make it. I'll put you down with a (?) after your name.
Are we posting sign-ups here or on the GB post thread?
I've got a whacky Russian (I assume- all the writing looks like Cyrillic) kit of the Soviet Buran shuttle that I might be able to enter- depends on how things go in the coming month.
falconmod I'm in, I think I have a 1/72 LEM somewhere? John

John> Okay, I've already got you on the list.
If anyone wants to see who has signed up, check the list in the Group Build Section of the forum. I keep it updated there. (It's far down the list of GBs, but I still keep the list up to date with edits.)

GAFModelcrazy> I'll be putting up the official Group Build thread in another week or so. I'll send you a PM to arrange things.
I'll be looking forward to it.
Very ambitious! I'll concentrate on one for the build, but it's nice to have such a varied selection.

I'm really interested to see your build of the rockets. If you weren't doing it that kit would be higher up on my list. But I have been looking to start the Atomic city kit for some time.
I'm thinking the X-4 or the Mecury/Gemini kit for the next kit if I have time.
I'm doing the same. I will be doing that AMT Man Space rocket collection kit like you have. That way if I only get a few of the rockets done, I still finished something. I'm going to start with the Saturn V, then the Saturn 1B and so on (although the Titan II, Atlas and Redstone are nothing at that point).
I may just grab a Shuttle if time permits and I'm on a roll.
Yah, I plan on doing 1 big build and then a small build. I should be able to do that in 9 months. Famous last words!
mach71 I think I have too many models, I just found another box of kits. I found the old Revell 1/48 Mercury/Gemini kit The Mercury launch pad, 1/110 I think and the old Revell X-1 and X-4. Too many to choose from!

I'm sure Gary would agree, you're welcome to do more that one
Thanks for the clarification!
The NF-104 does have a draw, I did one from scratch 30 years ago. There was an artical in FSM at the time on converting the 1/32 Hasagawa kit. I did it in 1/48 as a test and It came out pretty good. I just had problem getting the extended shock cones looking correct and the correct tail badge. When I separated from the Air Force I donated all my models to the Dover AFB museum. They are probably long gone by now.
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this GB!
Here is a photo of some kits that need to go:
GAF Sure! As long as you've got a serial number or ID mark on it that can be traced back to Skylab... Gary

Gary... Can I make a piece of burned up skylab that fell to Earth? I can get that done in 9 months...no problem.
Mach71> That is a nice selection. Like the idea of the NF-104.
The idea of this group build is just "real space" subjects, and that includes a lot of support and auxiliary vehicles and things. It's not about the "space race", but about the attempt to explore space. That's why things such as the Corporal missle would be fine, as it was the first ballistic missle designed by the USA and therefore important in developing later rockets for the space program. If someone wanted to do a model of the Vehicle Assembly Building, that would be okay too! As long as you can connect it to the effort to get into space (even peripherally) then it's good. Gold Corvettes owned by the astronauts would be good.
So grab something you think you can finish in 9 months and have fun!

PS> Send me a list of what you might be wanting to sell.
Thanks
I figured the shuttle was too late, there was no real race at that point.
Digging them out forced me to sort my entire collection today. I have WAY too many kits.
In fact I've actually separated out about 20 kits to sell. I'll never get to build them so someone else might as well.
Nice collection. So much to choose from...
Now THAT is a realspace stach Mach
Not sure why the shuttle wouldn't work but of course it's not up to me.
Ok, I went and dug out my realspace kits from my stash:
I'm kind of leaning to one of the capsules, but the F-104 with
the NF-104 conversion has some draw.
I'm thinking the Shuttle does not really match the GB theme.
I have a P-80 also but that would be really pushing it.
mach71 Great idea! Please put me down. I'm not sure what I'll build, The Atomic City Mercury capsule comes to mind, but I have pleanty of Real Space to build!
