I have been restoring my mothers Thermopolyae she built almost fifty years ago. I have replaced the masts and bowsprit with walnut and am now starting the rigging.
Great base for a Spit, Willie Pete.

Working on a 1/32 Spitfire. I just got this display base for it from Bases By Bill. Outstanding workmanship and great customer service. Highly recommended
I'll give this thread a helpful bump...
After wrapping up my Comrade General Lee build earlier this week, I decided to do a quick repair project on an old build. I built this Tamiya Chieftain Mk.5 in spring of '84 at Ft Polk, and it has been damaged over the years, getting the right side bustle rack, left side smoke grenade launcher, TC IR spot land and machine gun broken off. Some parts I found and saved ( part of the rack, part of the TC MG, smoke grenade launcher) and some parts ( TC IR spot lamp & mount) were lost who knows where and when...
So scratched up what was missing off the rack, and rebuilt the rest and after letting that dry, I glued it in place... along with a replacement spot lamp that was close enough from my spares bin and I used a modified part that looked close enough for the mounting yoke... I also made up a new barrel from brass tubing for the TC MG. Lastly I glued the left side smoke grenade launcher back in in place, and once dry, all the replacement items were painted. Since I was never happy with the tank that I used on the main gun thermal wrap blanket, I also repainted that area and painted the padding inside the open turret hatches... lastly I replaced the old broken off stretched sprue antennas with some made from music wire Now it should be good to go for the next 40 years ;)

Retired and living the dream!
Aha!
Since I last replied I finshed the buildings, I retired from the Museum and besides the Spring Creek project I am on and off working on the Encore version of the U.S.S. Olympia. This is my first model ship with Aftermarket decks of wood. It'sa interesting experience. These decks are so thin that in backlighting, you can almost see light between each plank.very interesting, and they stick well!
Also switching off and Working on Tamiya's U.S.S. Missouri and Kangnam's version of the DKM Tirpitz! I don't concentrate on one thing now. It's all over the place.
The old Monogram SBD Helldiver...waiting for somebody to mask the glass.

A 1/144 model of the USS Pueblo (AGER-2)....yes, that Pueblo. Used the hull from the ancient Shell Welder Coastal Tanker which I think was originally a Frog kit(I'm using a repop from an obscure Russian company). Cut about an 1" out of the hull and modified the bow and stern to better represent the Pueblo. Everything else is scratchbuilt using tons of Evergreen styrene and some 3d printed items from Model Monkey and Shapeways. So far rear superstructure and pilothouse mostly complete and working on the details on the forecastle. Next will be the SOD hut (Special Operations Detachment) and then tons of radars and antennae(?).
Found some plans online of the Camano class Army Freighter that the Pueblo was converted from as well as some line drawings of the Pueblo from a book by the XO and Navy drawings from the time of her conversion. The ship is currently still held by the North Koreans and is on public display for propoganda. Several photos and videos online of those who have taken the tour of the ship.

Wow... nobody has touched this thread since before last summer officially began. I've got this Heller Etendard IVM on my bench currently...

Hi Stik!
As usual, no photos, but, I am working on my commission from Spring Creek Model Trains. It's a Vac-u-Fromed H.O.(1/87)Great Lakes Freighter. As per old photos. It will have a detailed Wheelhouse. Known to most as the "Bridge". Question, Where did that description come from? Any way, that and some Germanic Buildings for the Museum!
Not really good with pics but im doing Italeri's 1/35 DUKW
Robert, that tractor would look real good towing an aircraft... too bad most that would go with it are 1/32 and not 1/35
So what’s on my bench right now? Actually several projects at once…
First up, a Hobbycraft 1/48 F8F-1B in VNAF colors, that is nearing the finish line
secondly, off my shelf of doom, a T-72B in Invader Zim markings… damaged many years ago, it has gone from this
to this
still have a bit more to do…
And last but not least, I’m working on this Dragon 1/35 M48A1, on which I’ve gotten this far…
Oh yeah, I’m also working once a month on this Italeri 1/35 Crusader AA tank for an AMPS GB Challenge… after 7 hours I’m at this point…
Just a quick little build just to say I actually finished something this year:

Right now, I have a group build thing going for the Just making conversation podcast group....the Walnut Challenge! the challenge of the group build is to build a scene inside the shell of a walnut! I have two ideas in progress, and a 2 pound bag of Walnuts on standby!
"...failure to do anything because someone else can do better makes us rather dull and lazy..."
Mortal as I am,I know that I am born for a day. But when I follow at my pleasure the serried multitude of the stars in their circular course, my feet no longer touch the Earth...
I'm still working on the Langley. I see the light at the end of the tunnel, however. Just those piddly little details left. I'll be putting it on the display base very soon.
When I take breaks from the Langley work, I am working on a scratchbuild, a Great Lakes schooner called the Lucia Simpson, the last working commercial sailing vessel on the lakes (now long gone). Have the hull complete, am in the painting process.
Tojo72This is Tamiya's P-38, what a beautiful kit to work on so far
Sort of- "we started with the engine, then added the wing and the landing gear bay, then the radiators and before you knew it we were back at the tail".
I'm a bit of a twin boom fan, this aircraft was really a work of art.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
A 1/72 scale Gee Bee R1. Tiny, never built one before. An Beriev BE-6 Ekranoplan huge flying monster part painted.
Remember , common sense is not common.
Nice looking builds, gentlemen.
This is what I've got going right now. The Tamiya F-4B that I'm building as an early F-4B Marine Corps ground pounder. Also a fan of the Quinta stuff for cockpits. If anybody is on the fence about buying a set of their stuff, just remember its a Russian company, so after on-hand stock is gone, who knows if we'll ever see it again.
"You can have my illegal fireworks when you pry them from my cold, dead fingers...which are...over there somewhere."
Tojo72These are the Quinta raised decals, they really look good and are easy to work with.
Those look cool.
Always appreciate being made aware of new products. Spent a while looking into them after I read your post.
Thank you, and also for the feedback on how you got along with them.
MR TOM SCHRY Tojo72 that is looking so good. You're off to a great start. Any plans to purchase the P-38 J when it gets released? I've got to get both of these P-38 kits someday. tjs

Philo, you're a brave soul taking on a large vacuform subject like that! Modeling skills required.
John, it sure does look like Tamiya has taken over your bench. And in more than one genre!
