I would have to rate myself a 2. I am relatively knew to modeling with only a handfull of builds under my belt. I also haven't had the oppurtunity to try skills that i think one would need to be high score. Such as i have never airbrushed I just start scratchbuild(Skirt Armour) not that hard) I just started to incorporate detail washes dry brushing scratch building, accessories etc. So I think I have talent but I have to refine and build on what i believe are good talents for my foundation.

I would say I am a 3.5, I could be better but sometimes I just want to move on to the next step instead of spending 2 hours trying to sand out and fill seams or mold lines, I take my time on most things though and try to do a good job, my goal on every kit is to do a better job than the last one, I know I have the knowledge and abilities to be a much better modeler but with all these unopened kits stacked around me I guess I get a little too anxious to finish the project and start the next one.
Someday I would like to enter a contest so I guess that will be when I really apply all my experience and try to be a 5.

What about numbers below 1? Confused [%-)] Wink [;)]
In all honesty I am probably a 4 I guess, as there are still many things I need to learn.

I think my skills are average, call it a solid 2.5. If it somewhat resembles the picture on the box, then I've managed not to screw it up that badly. I hope I never stop learning new things with each kit, because where is the fun in that?

well, can i givr myself aq bonus point for being young? lol. anyway, the f-4 i posted was my first camo job, and i thought it turned out well. my oilwashes/ other weatherinbg are coming along but need work. still need to practicer a lot more with the bad boy badger to get my AB skill up there. other finesse techniques of mine could also use a little work. armor weathering i still do simoply, so i could use work there. i'll give myself a 3. or a 2.9. i don't think anyone here is a perfect modeler, so a 5/5 would just be a reerence point IMO,.

I would say I'm an above average builder on airliners. I'm building my first P-51 right now, and I'd like to see if I can transfer my talents to the Military airplanes.
My strong point I have is patience. That is the most critical one I need. If you have patience, you will build a very impressive model.
For example, I spent 3 months perfecting a paint job on just the fuselage of a Delta 777.
I like how I can make Alclad look like "real" metals or aluminums.
I think I have perfected the polished paint job with no orange peal.

Right now the P-51 has my thumbs tied in some areas. It's going to be a learning experience.

When building a model, I keep notes on how I welded something, or prepared it before painting. Just so when I build a simuliar model, I know what short cuts to take or how to avoid problems.

Never quit learning.

I only have one polling option.....

I'd say I was an average to high-average builder. I still need to take my time for cleanup of parts and general fit, but my painting has progressed in leaps and bounds over the last 2 years.

Overall, I'd say I'm a 4. I think I've improved most as a builder. I try to pay alot more attention to details like parting lines, ejector pin marks, and getting a good clean bond. I certainly sand a whole more than i ever did when I was a kid. I think I need to work most on my finishing. I can put down a decent base coat with an airbrush. I'm starting to get my washes right. My drybrushing is poor, and I am very poor with little details like rust, scratches etc. I haven't had a set of tracks turn out well yet. Still, I'm happy with what I've accomplished in my first year back, and I am really enjoying myself.

I'd have to say a 4. There's always room for improvement, especially when it comes to painting/finishing. The building part, mostly scratchbuilding lately, seems to get easier and more fun as time goes on. Still have to work on the tail end of things. I have a lot of primed models sitting waiting to be finished.

Tell us how you really feel. Wink [;)] I wish I could say that. I feel that I'm improving my work but still have a long way to go. After seeing so much great work in the forums, I feel intimidated to show my work based on the perceived notion that it isn't good enough. Still, the forum has made me try harder and attempt new techniques. Model Museum summed it up well about building for yourself. Thanks all. Better yet, thanks for sharing.

I think, I'm of a skill level where I can make myself happy with a build, but still know there's room for improvement.

If it comes out looking like I wanted it to when I'm done, thats good enough for me.

Berny on perfection i know what you mean.I used to do the same thing in every thing I did un till one day it struck me.That is what is perfection.I looked around and found that nothing is as perfect as it should be.What one calls perfect another will call it trash. The true meaning of perfect I found out was, what do I think about it.Some will say its perfect others will piont out things that they think you missed. So I learned a lission in that it is how it looks to me,for I am creating my vision. Now that I changed my why of thinking on this, modeling has been a whole lot more fun and easy to do.Digger

Yeah i think i'd rate myself at 3 maybe 2and a half..........
My biggest problem with modelling is my lack of patience which leads me to rush my builds when i'm close to finishing.........

overall id say im a 4 cos while i know what im supposed to do i dont always pull it off. my best modelling skill is busting shrinkwrap, i reckon ive got that down pat. i dont even need to use a knife ! all i need is a fingernail. as for weak points, id say that i am seam-filling deficient.

I feel we are ALL to hard on ourselves!!!!!

I am great with the finite detailing, itty bitty hinges etc, but ask me to do a wing root and BLEH!!!!

I'd rate myself a 3 over all, and give myself a big fat 5 for sticking with an Airfix kit that just wasn't ment to be, but turned out to look pretty good!!!!

i consider myself below average. when i see the fantastic detail done by so many of the members, and i see the fantastic skill so many show i dont feel in the same class with them.

I have been building for around forty five years so I would consider my self a beginner. I learn something with each build. Each build is better than the last. My skills have improved from what I have learned on this forum. I build to please myself. I am my worst critic.

I used to strive for perfection and spent too much time worrying if something was perfect enough. I now build for pleasure and find I am getting more out of the hobby. I enjoy it more than I have in the past. As a result I find my projects are turning out better. So, I am just beginning to enjoy the hobby. Therefor, I am a beginner.

I consider myself to be an average builder. I'm good at building the model, but I still want to improve my painting and weathering skills. I am not happy with the way I paint and weather tracks as well. On the other hand I do see improvement each time I build a kit so I know I am going in the right direction. Oh, only saw one answer to the poll question as well.

I am still trying out all the different techniques that I have read about so I consider myself still as in the "learning" stage.

I am devoloping a strong point of interiors but I would still rate that so-so... I am still working on my airbrushing and getting better... although some do better in some areas I do better in others.,.. by the same token although some do worse in some areas, I do even WORSE in others.. so middle of the road I guess.. and as I am my own worst critic I dont think I will ever raise or lower that...

I do it for the satisfaction I get.. although I know someone else could do it better.. no one cando it like me...

And on the same note it is one of the reasons I always pick the odd builds no one else wants in the GB's... representing something that shouldnt be left out, but at the same time I am competing against my own skills...
