Absolutely! My most fervent wish when I was a kid was that y parents would suddenly become wealthy enough to sign me up for the Model Master Club and still keep the book club and American History card clubs rolling. Alas, it was not to be.

I can still list my first few kits. I got a Revell or Monogram 1/72 P-40 as a gift. Eventually I got an F-4J with ace of spade markings, also in 1/72. I also built a dogfight opponents kit from Revell with a Syrian MiG 21 and an Israeli F-16, and followed them up with a Marine Harrier and an A-10 and F-15.

Nurse Diesel is one of the best movie characters in history.

My first model was back when I was six.  It was submarine model by Revell (can't remember the name or type).  My dad and I did while I was in the hospital recovering from my open heart surgery.  The one thing I remember the most was that we used Testors Non-Toxic glue in the green tube and how much it stunk up the room with this orange citrusy smell!!!!!!!!!

If I recall corretly, the first kit I made was a 1:700 or so model of the aircraft carrier Enterprise way back when I was 8 or 9. I just slapped it together with glue and put all the planes out on display. Never painted it, put on decals or anything. It got lost somewhere along the line, but it's still the first kit I ever completed.

I think I was 9 and my Dad and I went out for the morning and ended up picking up a F-16 Thunderbirds jet. I remember stopping at my Grandma's to see her and my Mom while she was visiting her. I remeber sitting in my Grandma's garage and me and pops opening that box up and looking at all the parts, then promptly driving home to build and paint it. That was my first kit, and I have been hooked ever since... thanks Dad

- my first model was a 1/25 1959 plymouth, by amt, i believe. it was a glue-up, of course, this was, after all, 1960 or '61. that meant wire axles, tube glue and interminable waiting for the glue to dry sufficiently to proceed. painted it kelly green, with a brush, from one of those little bottles (what were they, 1/4 oz.?).
- never developed a huffing habit from the glue and, later, spray paint usage. as the years roll on, the presence of untainted brain cells is increasingly appreciated.
- totally o.t., but...i'm a member of other, non-modeling related fora and it's interesting how much better the grammar, punctuation and spelling is on this one. i imagine that's significant in some way, just not sure how.

I have noticed the grammer is much better here as well. I think it has something to do with the general age of the members. I know most are older than me (27, no offense, old guys ) This is a family orientated forum, so there is a  lot less immature language and offensive material. It has been a pretty pleasent experiance here, rather than on some forums where you have a lot of kids who think they are all that on the internet and are willing to have a virtual fight anytime somebody says they might be wrong about something.

I had 1 TOO!! I had painted it pink (after a movie with a pink sub & Army nurses at the time) But, my first actual attempt at painting was a 1:1 scale 68/69 Caddilac  that was brand new. IT was pink when I got done But, I was black N Blue when Dad got done!!
Man, what a trip down memory lane!!

Now, Ed, let me get this straight. You, as a child, painted your father's brand new 68/69, REAL 1:1 Cadillac, bright pink? your father must be a really forgiving man. I do seriously believe had that been me and my father, I would have been in the hospital, and Dad would have been in jail!

Actually it was my grand uncle's car. I  couldn't help myself It was a very bright almost flouressant pink!!

Whoa, let's ease up on the 'old' comments there eizzle .  I'm only 41 and prefer to think of myself as well matured rather than old.

The first model that I can remember making was a Matchbox 1:72 Spitfire. It was made up of sprues of two different colors so no painting was required.  It was just bang it together with a tube of Airfix cement, leaving multiple finger prints everywhere, apply the decals and then take it out in the back yard and dogfight.  Those were the days, sigh.

My first real model was a 1/96 scale (I believe) of the  Cutty Sark I was 10 yrs. old and a friend of mine gave it to me for my B-day. It was still sealed & no instructions!! But, I was determined to build it. Found all  kinds of books at the library  on ships of that era,etc & I put her together. That was fun. It had the old plastic sails which I tossed & grabbed up an old sheet which gave it some realism to it. Man, what a build that was!!

That's a heck of a build for a ten-year-old's first time effort! The "Cutty Sark" with no instructions!

It sure was a heck of a build w/out the instructions! Took me about 6-8 months to figure it out!! Never thought to contact the company for a set of them I think the worst part was all the rigging & the little details. I was definately proud of that one.  Might just get another one one day just to see "if" it comes with instructions!!  Hey, with all the PE & resin sets out now... I could really do it up nice!!

I think my first model was a snapkit of a red corevette. i can't remember who made it amt or monogram, not sure. i was anywhere between 8-10. my dad had got it for me. He was serious into the hobby. he was incredible with detail. but that was my first model.
