My mother was so happy when I brought my wife home.  They are very similar people...yeah... I know, I've come to terms with that.  I'm kinda like her dad so it works out like that I guess.  Anywho, my mother treated her like her daughter right away.  She always wished she had a daughter so Wings, Firepower, or Cops wouldn't be on the TV.  Later, it was the Hitlerchannel.  The point is she never got to do girly things with a little girl and the toilet seat was always up.

My big concern is that they will be mistaken about the gender.  I don't want to get ready for a girl and then have a bunch of pink stuff for a boy.

Wives tend to think their husbands are "works in progress" and the job ain't done until it's in the box!

I'm going on my 22nd year of marriage, we've gone through some rough times (I can be so stupid sometimes) but mostly they've been good times (I've learned much along the way). My wife is pretty much the same as the day I married her. Thank goodness I'm not! I was hard enough to live with when I lived alone!!

You're right about the advice of married people, or any people really. If you end up wondering, just put it on the reject pile and keep moving forward. The biggest lesson I ever had to learn in life is if it doesn't come naturally, leave it! You're also right about NOT telling her (or she, you) what to do. Do this and do that wears thin very fast.

When we had kids, we didn't want to know what sex they were, we were willing to let things happen as it should, without any preconceived notions. We now have two wonderful sons, one of whom is the spitting image, right down to the personality, of me. They say the acorn doesn't drop too far from the tree and Robert proves that! I sometimes wish we had a daughter to help my poor wife out. It must be tough living with three boys...

So long folks!

Scott,

I know what you mean.  My wife and I were together for four years before we got married.  We spent all our free time together, almost living together for the last year of dating.  All the old folks kept telling us how different it would be, but it isn't.  For some reason I want her to cook more... Anyway, once we got back from the honey moon she flipped a switch or something.  Apparently, there were lots of things about my previously acceptable routine that needed to change... inexplicably.  Nothing big, I think she's done though.  When ever people ask me how the married life is, I tell them it's the same.  Really, it is for us.

I pay attention to what people with good marriages have to say.  If anyone says anything that makes me wonder whether they are right, I ignore it.  So far, what I've learned is not to tell her what to do and she won't tell me what to do.Smile [:)]  Generally, I think this works for most people.

Off topic, on Wednesday we find out what our baby is going to be.  I'm hoping for a healthy baby.  Also, that said baby is a boy.  I have a suspicion that if it turns out to be a girl, I won't be disappointed.Smile [:)]

heh heh, I did set the bar pretty high.  For our 2nd year anniversary I surprised her with a 3 day trip to Mendocino.  This year for our 3rd I took her to Seattle.  I told her to take Friday off, but didn't tell her why.  Then Thursday night told her to pack for a 3 day trip.  She didn't know where we were going until we boarded the plane.  Smile [:)]

The funny thing is, even though we've only been married for 3 years, we've been together for 10, and as good as married for 6 or 7 of those years.  And the magic is still there.  Smile [:)]

I'm sure as long as there is enough $$$ and she still thinks you like her more than the plastic bits she'll let it slide.  Now that my economic fortunes are improving, my wife doesn't seem to care so much about the GIANT list I have marked "To Buy."Smile [:)]

In the end, I think as long as the wife feels taken care of, there won't be a problem.  She might think you are wasting time, but if you take care of her all will be well.

Back on the hunting thing for a moment...
Some of these guys do ignore their family. They go out in the morning before work and again right after work until dark. Not good in my book since they do have young children. Yes, I know exactly how to ignore someone in the same room.  Black Eye [B)]

When I go fishing I'll ask the whole family if they want to go with me to the lake. If they don't (usually my son will come) then I'll only go for a short time, such as while my wife sleeps (works 2nd shift) and I'm home when she gets up.

yes but i bet she did not see the invoice

if i spent almost a weeks pay like that they would be shutting off the lights and it  is hard to build models with out the lighs on and she would kill me for that

Laugh [(-D] My wife and I have no need to keep secrets, I told her about the purchase when I ordered it, and she looked at the invoice last night.  I'm very fortunate, she's a great wife!  She knows how much enjoyment I get out of modelling, and she gets very interested in all the goodies and how they're built etc.  Besides, you should see how much money she "saves" at Ross, Target and Bed Bath and Beyond.  Shock [:O]Wink [;)] Laugh [(-D]  It helps too that we're both very fortunate and have good jobs.  Smile [:)]

I dunno, going hunting/fishing in your free time doesn’t necessarily equate to ignoring your kids. There are plenty of ways to ignore someone – even when sitting in the same room with them.

I find that most active dad’s find plenty of time to spend with their kids in addition to hunting/fishing, or whatever activities they may participate in – golf anyone? Most will also find a way to include the family, at least all that want to be included, more often than not.

Just my opinion of course.

A thing on hunting if I may,  for all the single guys or married with no children please disregard my statements.  I think if a guy has kids and they're not old enough to go hunting or fishing, he shouldn't go as often.  Most fellows spend a lot of their time at work and the kids don't get much quality time with their dads.  If you go out hunting and fishing in your free time and ignore the kids, they resent it, they learn to that, and you don't have a good relationship.  The older they get, the less they like you.  I would doubt it if there is anyone reading this thinking "that's me."  We're all too busy trying to plant the modeling seed.Smile [:)]  This is just something I wanted to say.  Please, don't be offended. My 2 cents [2c]

I asked my wife about this, can't really use her point of view since she's helping me with a hobby shop business, but she asked the girls at work.

At first most of the wives said - "H_LL no, my husband ain't spending tons of money on toys".
A small few didn't have much of a problem as long as the expenses didn't interfere with the household money (paying bills, buying food, etc...)

My wife then asked those hard nosed wives - "Your husband goes hunting doesn't he? What if he wanted to stay home with you and build models instead or even just add building models to his to-do-list? How much does it cost for your husband to go hunting? How many hours is he gone hiding in the woods?"

Some of the women thought about it and said that would make more sense than hunting. That their husbands spends tons of money on guns, ammo, outfits, licenses  & tags, hunting trips, etc... and sometimes doesn't even get their limit.

One or two stuck to their guns and said - "My husband better go out and bring me home my venison! If he ain't hunting, he better be working!"

WOW

I'm so glad that I have my wife.
She knows someone and gets red deer venison for free, I don't care much for wild white tail.
I get pretty much what I want when we can afford it without too many questions asked other than - "Are you sure this is the one you want?"

My wife always says one thing when I am am model-making. She is happy because "at least I know where you are if I need you". So that takes care of that. I try hard to care for her, the kids, the house, etc., all in balance. Nothing should get neglected - so I try and parcel my life up into time for this and time for that....

As for my growing 'stash' I tried to be disciplined. Avoid impulse buying.... Stick to a very narrow topic on modeling subjects. Then - when you have the BIG kits focus your retail lust on the small things - aftermarket accessories, decals and every reference book on the topic you can find. My darling wife hardly notices the small items I pick up off EBay. She notices the books, but what woman can complain about a man who buys books? "It's all references darling"...

BUT I would like to hear this from a woman's point of view.... Any volunteers out there?

I tend to agree with you Mortar.

I used to joke with my wife and tell her "I could start rebuilding another Muscle Car and start hitting the titty bars", but she just laughs at me. I don't even think we have any bars like that up here, at least not close enough to get to. I used to live the fast and stupid life, hanging out with a certain well known motorcycle club in titty bars back in CT. I also used to spend tons of money on rebuilding cars and racing. So my wife is glad that I (in her words) "grew up" and became a family man. She's all to happy to look over at 8pm and see me sitting with my son at the kitchen table helping him with his model kit. She also knows that I truely miss rebuilding and racing cars. So when I find a model kit that sparks my interest, she tries to get it for me, after all they're only about $10. Now she is helping me start the hobby shop. Guess it's a fair trade for my aging and busted up body, I end up with a loving family, a canoe, time to go fishing, and a few of my own businesses to run and keep somewhat occupied.

If I need to see perky titties, I ask Mama to stand on her head. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]
