Great. Just great, Sprue. You reminded me of CB radios and 10-100's. Now I've dug out an old C.W. Macall album and I'm jamming to Convoy and Wolf Creek Pass. Makes me want to build a Kenworth, or a Peterbilt like Will and Sonny had. Or haul Coors beer across state lines like Jerry Reed did.  And that's a big 10-4. 

I have Sirius Satelite Radio in my model room.  It's usually on Channel 15, Classic Rewind.  It's a mix of 70's, 80's, and 90's.  Sometimes I tune it to one of the comedy channels.

Nothing wrong about listening to classical music. Grew up on it first listening to the old Warner Bro's cartoons on Saturday mornings. Who can forget the Wagner favorite starring Elmer Fudd...'kill the rabbit, kill the rabbit!

When I am doing the basics, (putting halves together, wings, wheels, bombs, etc.), I like to watch "Dogfights" in the History channel. :)

Rarely, will I listen to music when building, but when I do its punk (no not the radio friendly junk of late).  But then again, that what I listen to all the time.

JoeRugby, just so you won't feel alone, I'm also coming out as a big fan of classical music to model by. I tend to listen to music from an era a bit earlier than you, as I'm more into Baroque music.

You can sate your Baroque musical interests for really cheap, too. Here are two prime examples:

1. Everything Archangel Corelli (1653-1713) ever wrote, or might have written (there are a bunch of works attributed to him) is available in nice, historically-informed performances by the original music band Musica Amphion. You get all 48 trio sonatas, all 12 solo sonatas, the 12 concerti grossi plus about 10 other works on 10 CD's. CD Universe carries this set for a piddling $37.89. 

2. If you're just starting work on, say, a multi-media battleship kit, you might want to consider all 555 keyboard sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757). Pieter-Jan Belder has been working his way through them for the last several years. He's just released volume 9 (out of 13 volumes = 39 CD's). This 3-CD set contains the sonatas Kirkpatrick numbers 372 through 427. Belder plays a variety of harpsichords, organs and fortepianos, and plays all of them very well. CD Universe carries each volume at around $10.00 per volume. I figure that volume 13 will arrive just in time for attaching the last PE fiddly-bits and rigging the beast.

As I build a lot of models based on the Gerry Anderson TV series and films, I tend to listen to the episode soundtracks on tape.

Otherwise I will listen to BBC Radio 4 (Talk), BBC7 (BBC Archived comedy and drama) and Classic FM

The heavyer the better.

Meshuggah, The Acacia Strain, Bleeding Through, As I Lay Dying, Cannibal Corpse, Chimaira, Machine Head, Unearth, Fear Factory...etc... you get the idea.

I just picked up some Corelli and Boccherini's concerto for cello.  I got hooked on this stuff due to Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey/Maturin series.  I wanted to know what the music they played sounded like so I purchased the movie soundtrack, then I purchased the actual composers and now it is pretty much all I listen to.

I was trained in classical piano as a youngster (many-many-many years ago). As a result, I tend to listen to my collection of classical music and also some operas. Depends on what I'm working on and my mood of the day. Also have soundtracks of shows, '40s (Benny Goodman and the like), and also 50's and 60's Bandstand music.

I didn't list ALL the music I listen too. I do have 3 of Herb's 78 RPM's that I transferred to CD's. You are absolutely right Preston. That is some GOOD stuff. What it boils down to is the mood of the day and the project on the bench that determines the sounds listened to. WHATEVER the music, as long as YOU enjoy it, its great.
