WARNING WILL ROBINSON!!! For those building the Academy C model make sure you have photos of the rotor head assembly. Mel was 100% correct. They have push-pull tubes hooking up to the wrong surfaces and they have pitch horns made upside down. I used some copper wire to correct some of these tube connections and cut out the bottom of the pitch horn so the tube can connect properly. I really needed to cut off the ends of the pitch horns and just reglue them but I'm past tired on this model and just want to call it done. Anyway, I hoping to finalize the gluing tonight and hopefully get a picture posted tonight. If the rotor system doesn't cause me too many more issues.

Thanks MEL for the heads up. I would not have caught it until it was too late.

Well I'm calling this bird DONE! I 'll give myself a B- for overall quality of work, only because this is the first model I built in twenty-years, but like I have said numerous times I learned a lot. This aircraft really challenged my skills and if it were not for many of you all giving me advice she would have turned out a lot worse. Thanks everyone for your kind comments and assistance. It is time to donate this model to my office and start work on something else. My last advise for building this bird, plan ahead as much as possible and do not get impatient.

Again, thanks everyone

Charlie, as a matter of fact I was.  Great job!  I really like how she turned out.  The blade tiedown is a nice touch.  What's next?

Here are a few more semi-professional images. I hid all the kitchen clutter and it shows off a little more detail.

Ray I will probably be build the H-13. Granted there is more I could do on this bird, but I'm just tired of it and need to set it aside and move on.

Again, thanks everyone for all the comments and assistance.

Charlie,

She looks good!  We all know we could have done something better after we finished but don't be too hard on yourself.  Fine example of a UH-1C gunship!

Clear Left!

Thanks Mel, your advise and photos were a great asset in the building of this model. They both made a big difference in how she turned out. I do plan on building another in the future.

Hi Charlie,

Wow, That is one fine looking Huey! Your build really captures the look of an in service machine  quite well. Not too abused, but used enough to show some wear. Thumbs Up [tup]

Cheers,

Alby

Thanks Alby, I did not mean for the tail boom to be covered in near as much exhaust soot as it ended up with. As I stated in many of my posts do not get impatient, I was the biggest violator of patience. When I was ready to weather the exterior I could not find my pastels and like all good husbands and wife's, we blamed each other for not being able to find something. To make a long story short I decided to airbrush the black on and got it much darker than my original wishes. I use to be fairly good with an airbrush but my skills greatly deteriorated over the years I was out of model building.

Again, thanks for the kind comments

Charlie

Don't worry about the exhaust stain. If I recall correctly any huey which had a lot of hours on it had a tail boom that was stained pretty good. My crew chiefs spent a lot of time trying to get the soot off the tailboom and were always trying some new cleaner. I think "409" came out while I was in VN and the CC's thought it was great.

i have a uh-1c huey "heavy hog" model by acedemy/mrc that's 1/35 just like yours

and on the directions it said to paint the metal part with the holes in it that is at the very front of the electronics and pedals with a dull grey and i waswondering if i shuold  paint the inner part interior green and the outer part grey like you did or should i follow the directions and paint the whole piece a dull gray

(i apoligize that i don't know the name to these parts and that i can't be more pacific.)

Not sure I understand what your asking. Are you talking about the exterior side walls of the battery compartment? If so they should be gray. The interior of the the battery compartment if I remember my Huey days was primer green, not gray. Hope this helps.

Tried to retrieve discussion /78587/; no luck.  I remember several rotorhead discussions and need some info to share with a friend.  Ray, I remember a post that you did once-can't find it either-about getting into archieved discussions.  Any help would be apprecitated

The Finescale website was recently restructured and unfortunately all the links I had collected no longer work.  i think that is true for any links to older threads.  Sorry about that. What was discussion 78587 about, anyway?

I believe it had to do with correcting and detailing the Academy UH-1C head.  I have found portions of what I remembered about it on other threads.  I think 78587 probably was a lead in to or had originated as a dicussion that became UH-1C Main Rotor Head Details Additional Pics, thread 80334.  My old mind ain't as sharp as it used to be-breathed too much JP4 and heard too much turbine whine in my formative years.
