I like it! I really like the exhaust staining on the boom. Looks great, Pawel. Nicely done!

That looks FANTASTIC!  I've always thought that the early Cobras were the most attractive ones.  Your panel line preshading just adds so much to the final presentation.  I'm still hoping to get a 1/32 version of one of the newer kits that have come out.  Great job!

Gino, O, Tom - thanks a lot for your comments and for your kind words - I'm glad you like my build!

I've got one more special - a photo that is possible almost only through model building - showing the same helicopter before and after rebuild from AH-1G to AH-1F. Here's what it looks like:

1:72 68-16442 Cobra (before and after) by Pawel

It's almost like "Find 10 differences (or more!)..."!

Thanks for looking and have a nice day

Hi Pawel,

Sorry, it's been a while, summer is here and I tend to put modeling on hold for outdoor activities. You did a fantastic job on 4-4-2. I really like your color modulations especially the top wing surface and tailboom exhaust soot.

I'll take a crack at your find 10 differences or more challenge between your AH-1F and AH-1G models.

1. AH-1F has Kaman K747 main rotor blades (MRB), AH-1G has B540 MRBs.

2. AH-1F has MRB hub sand deflectors, AH-1G doesn't.

3. AH-1F has laser tracking pod on rotor pylon, AH-1G doesn't.

4. AH-1F has 7 flat panel canopy, AH-1G 5 panel bubble canopy.

5. AH-1F has air data vane on gunners right canopy, AH-1G doesn't.

6. AH-1F has TSU nose, AH-1G has stub nose with main battery compartment.

7. AH-1F wire strike protection, AH-1G doesn't.

8. AH-1F has a 3 barrel 20mm M197 chin turret, AH-1G has M28A1 chin turret.

9. AH-1F has ALQ-134 disco ball, AH-1 doesn't.

10. AH-1F has IR exhaust suppressor, AH-1G doesn't.

11. AH-1F has engine gas/sand intake deflector, AH-1G doesn't.

12. AH-1F has TOW missiles on wings, AH-1G has 20mm Vulcan cannon and M158 2.75 inch FFAR rocket pods.

13. AH-1F has 3 avionics panels on left tail boom, AH-1G has 1 panel.

14. I can keep going but I won't....

I just got 2 Special Hobby's 1/48 AH-1Q/S kits this week and looks like a pretty good kit, except there are still some errors they haven't fixed from their G kit though. Sure, right after I spent 18 months kit bashing Fujumi's Q-8 kit down to the S(Mod) using 5 other kits, Special Hobby comes out with the S(Mod) kit.

I might have to break my summer rule and start one of the kits.

Thanks,

Tom

Hello Everybody!

O, Russ, Tom - thanks a lot for your kind words, I'm glad you like my build!

Tom - thanks a lot for writing up the comparison between the incarnations of that Cobra, I'm sure this will be helpful for people researching their Cobra builds.

When you decide to build your Cobras, I'd be glad to take a look at the WIP photos!

Thanks again and have a nice day

Hey Pawel, just wanted to let you know that you did a fantastic job on that Cobra. I was debating about posting my CH-46 embassy diorama here, but I'll wait. I especially like how you did the clear canopy frame. You mentioned clear decals that were painted, so I'm seeing that you placed them on the inside of the canopy. It's just for future reference, for when I decide to build another aircraft. Thanks again.
